Other Experience
General Skills Summary
  • For the past ten years I have had the opportunity to work heavily with all versions of Microsoft Access.

  • While working as a consultant, I have created and supported several different Access databases. I have produced a business critical load tracking application in Microsoft Access used by a trucking company based in Bountiful, Utah. The application possesses tracking, scheduling, and reporting capabilities as well as integrated faxing and e-mail functions. I recently completed a project migrating this Access database application to SQL Server with a VB front end as well as integration with an imaged document management system, which I developed. I created a sophisticated cross-referencing Access database used in the boat repair business. This application enables the business to better handle parts inventory and quickly research obsolete parts by locating the new part numbers that supersede the previous part numbers then retrieves information from all vendors. This allowed the business to provide instant information to customers and improve service levels. Barcode reading features were included to better track parts receiving and inventory control.

  • While working with First Security Bank, I inherited a database created to provide risk tracking abilities for the Risk Management department. The database went through extensive modifications to improve performance and features. I later migrated this application to SQL Server maintaining a front end written in Access. The application underwent further modifications to commercialize the product for sale to other banking institutions. I supported database administrators at other banks during their implementation processes.

  • While working at Wells Fargo, this same risk management database evolved with the merger with First Security. The application was re-written in Java for the front end, and a new back end database was developed in SQL Server to support the new Java application. I worked with Java developers providing SQL server expertise by designing the database model and building the physical database on SQL Server including: all tables, stored procedures, triggers etc.  In addition, I developed a complex issue tracking database used by the project management team to facilitate issues management.  Also within Wells Fargo, I consulted with many internal departments resolving various challenges with numerous Access databases.

  • While working at SabiOso, I have been involved in the development of a large incident management system commissioned by the US Forest service. My responsibilities in the development of this client server application include data modeling, database design and development, as well as work on the application client and user interface using Visual Basic.  The database development required the use of tables, views, triggers, stored procedures, and user defined functions that I provided in support of other developers on the development team. I created processes utilizing the Data Transformation Services to import data acquired from other government systems for integration into the incident management system created by SabiOso. More recently, I have been involved in a project to create a web application that will provide similar incident management functionality on an enterprise scale.

  • All of the above systems were provided with security preventing data corruption and database misuse.

  • I possess expert skills in VB and have completed all courses required for MCSD certification. I have extensive experience with VBA using it in all of my Access development. Most recently, I have been working with Java technologies and frameworks.

  • I have the ability to parse through and interpret large amounts of data, as well as provide recommendations for data organization.

  • I have experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, Firebird, as well as several other open source database solutions. I believe that, with my experience with so many different database platforms, I can adapt swiftly to any environment and quickly be a major contributor to the success of any company that I work with.
