Julian M. - Microsoft certified (MCTS) C#, VB.Net Developer - Freelance Programmer / Developer, United Kingdom

I have been developing in .Net languages for over five years. In the last three years, I've undertaken occasional work as a programmer. I have experience developing small to medium sized applications in VB.Net and C#. I have experience automating Office, and working with SQL and Access databases. I am familiar with all versions of the .Net framework; and recent versions of Office and SQL. When not writing programs for money, I am very active in the MSDN and Xtremevbtalk forums (as...

C# 3 yrs 5.0 2008 http://cid-862dee3ec267cb5c.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/CDBurnComponent.zip
I have learnt C# alongside VB.Net. Again, I have answered many forum questions on C#. One large project resulted from such a forum question, where there was a requirement to burn data to CD using C# and a clean install of windows XP.

This resulted in the creation of a component that wraps the Image Mastering API, based on COM Interop. The component allowed burning of data and music to CD.
vb.net 3 yrs 5.0 2008 http://cid-862dee3ec267cb5c.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/PSATracker.zip
I have been programming with VB.Net since it first came out, but have only undertaken paid work in the last 3 years.

Most of my programming experience comes from answering forum posts on the MSDN and xtremevbtalk forums. My particular areas of expertise include: GDI+, Win32/Platform Invoke/calling c++ dlls, custom controls, converting code from other languages, improving performance and general debugging.

I have also written a few small to medium apps, notably:

Application: PSATracker

This program started life as a simple Access database that tracked patients Prostate Specific Antigen levels. The doctor that created the database wanted something more impressive to show to drug company reps to get finance for further development. We had a couple of weeks, and developed the PSATracker demo program. This used the Access database, Office automation for reports and a free charting control.

I later created an alterntive version that used an SQL database and had greatly improved code. The project was shelved after commercial alternatives became available.

09/2005 Present Open University Bachelors Computing I am currently studying towards a BSc (Honours) Computing with the Open University.

I am about 80% of the way through my studies. I have attained the highest grade possible for each module I have so far completed. The degree uses a mixture of languages, mainly Java which I find very similar to C#. I find the core computer science modules more interesting as I have not previously studied in this area.
09/1990 06/1996 Edinburgh University Bachelors Medicine My original plan was to become a doctor, however I had to drop out due to ill health.
I was awarded with a BSc in medical science.
