Job application quota to refresh twice daily

Starting today, providers will see a change in how often job application quotas are increased.

Currently, when one of your job applications becomes inactive (you are hired, or your application expires, is withdrawn or rejected), your quota is increased immediately. This real-time updating encourages spamming and is causing our systems to run very slowly. To increase system speed for all users, and reduce the amount of job spamming, increases to your quota will now occur twice per day. This means that when one of your job applications becomes inactive, it may take up to 12 hours before you see your quota increase.

Note, none of the rules regarding your quota change.

I guess my only concern with

I guess my only concern with this is, what if, say the buyer updates the opening for something you apply for requesting further information in the cover letter that wasn't in the posting when you applied? Right now the only way for us as providers to remedy that is to withdraw the application and reapply immediately after with the new information added in.

I only bring this up because I've had a similar situation happen to me very recently, where the buyer posted the job initially, I applied, then they updated it and wanted us to answer a certain question; not doing so would get us rejected. If something like that comes up again and one has to withdraw and re-apply just to add the new requested information, it may take up to 12 hours for the quota to refresh and at that point it may be too late (of course, this is assuming one has used all of your available applications). On the other hand, if one doesn't do as the buyer requests there is the distinct possibility of not being chosen because of "not following instructions" even though said instructions were added in there after we originally applied.

Does that make sense?

Keep in mind I in no way think this is a bad idea and I think it's good to be able to cut down on scamming; however I would feel better about it if we had a system where we could edit our cover letters in cases where the buyer requests more information in the original posting. That way we don't have to withdraw, wait up to 12 hours, and then reapply.

Hi Nicole, Have you ever

Hi Nicole,

Have you ever tried to reapply for a job onwhich you were either rejected or withdrew your application?

From what I remember it is not possible.

A buyer can invite any rejected candidate. But, it is a different topic, though.

You can't reapply for jobs

You can't reapply for jobs you were rejected from, but I know you can reapply for jobs you withdrew from.

I don't know if we're supposed to be able to do that; if not, someone should look into fixing that, but I know it can be done.

I don't think it's against the TOS either to reapply for a job one withdraws from, but I could be wrong. Can someone shed some extra light?

Okay, thanks

I just went through a couple of jobs where I withdrew my candidacy and now I'm able to apply. Thanks for sharing this info.

Pothi

this is no good.

How about if there are new jobs and If you have ZERO quota left.

The only way to get extra quota is to end a job and if the remaining quota does not update in real time, how on earth would we be able to get application for the job?

The chance of winning the job also will be gone if not being able to apply ASAP.

Quota Refresh? Too bad...

I do not agree with this system because first of all, I though the system just got banged when I withdrew all my applications then I still got ZERO quota. I wanted to apply for a new job but then I still have to wait for 12 hours or so to apply for a new job.

I hope oDesk will get this back so that we can apply for jobs again and not be a stagnant provider.

not sounding good

Hi,

I think it's better to reflect the new quota instantly, so we can apply quickly for other projects and not waiting for 12 hours.

Like when a buyer seems unresponsive, I can withdraw on that and apply for a new one, better!

And how can we have more than 20 bids? I hope there is some ideas on this increased total bids, right? We can do more test if you want.

Regards,
Jerico

I think this is a good move

Hopefully it will discourage the amount of spam applications.

This is gonna be the end of

This is gonna be the end of oDesk!!!
I cant apply for the new jobs as they are posted, cos of this!!!

I always use up my quota an witdraw applications as new jobs are posted so I can immediately apply for them.
NOW I haveta wait for 12 hourss!!!!

?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is Lunacy of on epic scale.

To prevent spamming of jobs. Now people will only apply for jobs they really are qualified for instead of spamming all jobs daily.
Just keep some in reserve in case a new job comes up. It is not rocket science.

How can they spam jobs all

How can they spam jobs all day when they only have at most 20?

Veni, Vidi, Vici.

anymore reasons

Are there anymore reasons other than spamming and slowing the system, for implementing this scheme?

Isn't that enuf???

Seems slowing the system and having buyers frustrated with spam applications are enuf of a reason. After all without buyers we are not employed.

They spam by withdrawing,

They spam by withdrawing, using the newly refreshed quota, and applying to more.

This is a brilliant change, oDesk. Thank you!

I agree you only being able

I agree you only being able to apply to 20 jobs is ridiculous. We should at least be able to apply to 30 if we take more tests. I know on other freelance sites, you can apply as many as you want there is no set limit. There is quite a few things i disagree with such as the 12hrs and max amount of apps you can apply are 20.

At one point in time i went to bed & woke up didn't get on for around 6hrs and the quota still hadn't refreshed, it's not always accurate.

when will my weekly job quota refill?

Yes the 12 hour refresh is ok but my problem is , when will all my job quota refill?
I have 20 job quotas and I have used them all, it is 0 now, and hence it is monday in the utc time and tuesday here in the philippines I was expecting the my 0 job quota would be refilled to 20 so I can apply for more jobs now,
Please tell me if im wrong,

It's not a weekly limit. Job

It's not a weekly limit. Job applications count against your quota for 7 days. Please see the help for more info about which job applications count against your quota.

I have deleted your duplicate post.
