The New oDesk Site — Online Work at Your Fingertips

Today we are very excited to announce the launch of oDesk's brand new navigation and site design! We have been transitioning to this new look for several months, and we have received great feedback from our users. The site is designed to be more intuitive, highlighting the most important features by displaying them front and center. The new design also gives us the flexibility to continuously improve the site to meet our users' needs.

If you have any questions about the new site, please see our FAQs (for employers and contractors) or the "Where Is...?" table (for employers and contractors).

The site is now organized around core functions. Here's a quick tour:

If you have not tried the new site yet, check out these enhancements:

For contractors:

  • Find Jobs. Found under the "Find Work" tab, this is your home page when looking for work. Get the latest status on your job applications, search for job opportunities that fit your skills, and easily update your profile.
  • My Jobs. This is your home page when doing client work. Check all your active contracts, track your time billed this week, and see total earnings available to withdraw.

For employers:

  • Job Postings. Found under the "Recruit" tab, this is your home page for finding the perfect person for your project. See all your open jobs and the latest activity, easily post a new job, and search for the right contractor.
  • My Contractors. Found under the "Manage My Team" tab, this is your home page for managing contractors. Track who is currently working or see the last time they worked, view total hours billed this week, and see upcoming payments.

If you have feedback about the new site, we want to hear it! Please share your thoughts below.

You have improved a design to the prejudice of functionality

You have improved a design to the prejudice of functionality.

You stuff an interface with a various delicious things but a main functionality lacks a major thing: usability.
Personally I don't care what is a style. I don't care what style should be a new quilling on tabs or something like that.

I want to use it as before.
I don't want spend a lot of time on finding how to do something.
I don't want to wait seeing until a new design with loads a such of facebook/twitter/linkedin/etc social networking connectors, google analitics and other stuff that so annoying.

NOT LIKE THE NEW LOOK

I really don't like this new look odesk, the message ticker didn't work which perviously turn red when new message receives. this is totally unexcepateble. i am not satisfy, i am not sure what had happend to the odesk management, that they come up with this .......useless.

Very bad experience first time on oDesk

Hi everyone,

Over Last 1 year I have work on oDesk, also post job, have subcontractors. And also income approximate $50,000.00 but never go to other freelancing site.

we know there have many website that provide freelancing like freelancer.com getacoder.com etc. But from all of this oDesk is number one only because USER FRIENDLY, SPEED LOAD, AND MANY FREE OPTION.

But first time now after this new look I feel vary bad about odesk. oDesk lost it's USER FRIENDLY mode, each page load time take 7x longer than before. Some of my buyer asking me to go to elance.com only because they getting problem to access odesk now.

So what is happening? Some of buyer are going to other site, For work with them we also need to open account on the other site, Finally odesk losing both buyer and worker.

Finally I have a question that which people was asked to update this kind of fully rubbish system update that totally was not need? Also I want to know what is the bigger benefit of this update? beccause in this way we have many other website, WHY we come to odesk? Only for the old user friendly mode.

I strongly suggest to switch on older version as because we have no major benefit for this update except losing buyer and contracts.

Thanks,
Arafat Jahan

AGREE

Let us have the old nav option back please. My reporting is a mess. All inactive contracts still appear in my reporting. I only need the data of those who work for this week, not my entire team. Sad

100% agree with that. Who's

100% agree with that.

Who's the idiot who "thought" that adding more clicks to navigate to some page was a good idea? Are you serious?!?

Why the h*** don't you guys fix the oDesk search engine instead?!? *That* would be useful, as opposed as this update that's taking a few steps backward when it comes to user-friendliness.

New Navigation is so complicated

Is there any way for us to switched back to the old navaigation? Its way better than the new one...Simple and easy to use...

My Suggestion for the new navigation

Hey Odesk, Honestly, I don't like this new navigation and many Odesk employers have complained about this. I prefer the old one because right from the start when I joined Odesk the old navigation is easy to use. Can you please bring back the old navigation or can you please add an option that will bring me back to the old navigation.

Thanks

New Odesk Interface

This is so frustrating, I don't even know how to get to the "home" page. I really appreciate your effort to give Odesk a new look but for me, it's a disaster. Can we just switch back to the old "version"?

Workdiary

Hello oDesk Team,

Please let me know where I can see my hours?
Workdiary doesn't work. Weekly timesheet report doesn't work.

It very important to me to see my hours.

Best regards,

Maxim

Workdiary doesn't work!

Workdiary and weekly timesheet report don't work in all the following browsers: FireFix, Chrome, Safari on MacOS X Snow Leopard. Please fix that, because I use workdiary to manage the team, and now I can't continue working.

Work Diary and reports work

Work Diary and reports work in all the browsers you just listed (I'm on Snow Leopard too and just tried myself). Please make sure you have the correct company selected at the top left. You need to select yourself to access your own Work Diary and Timesheet.

When trying to see my teammates' WorkDiary this is the response I get:

You are not invited to any teams.
As a contractor, you will join a team when you accept a job contract or are invited to a team by an employer. Your team room will be your primary tool for connecting with your oDesk team. You will see which team members are online, their level of activity, and be able to instantly send messages. Learn more about teams in the Help Center.

Pretty weird... o.O

You'll need to switch to the correct company to see your teammates Work Diaries. By default, contractors no longer have access to them. The employer will need to give you access if you need it.

Thank you for pointing out the error message. I believe someone is already working on getting it updated.

Old One was better

Hi,
Frankly speaking i like old one compare to new.

Suresh Sahu

New navigation is very uncomfortable!

New navigation is very uncomfortable! You make people to waste their time for learning of new changes and how to work with the system, and each time it's more complicated. This is not really good, since you should to simplify the things. At least the changes shouldn't be so global, but a little by little. Thanks.

New Look

I think two third of people who is associated with Odesk Do Not like the New look. Odesk should return its awesome old look.

This change just unnaceptable

Bad colors, too much thin fonts, too many vertical space used.
Look and feel before this change was incomparable better.
All these make work only harder.

And look at score - nobody loves this change, really.

A link to old page should be

A link to old page should be available. I don't like the new nav. The only difference is the theme but incomplete on nav.

Wrong employees in wrong teams

1. the new navigation does not put the right members in the teams we hired them into, the members are all over the place, the contracts page shows the correct teams but not the 'manage my teams' page.
2. I also want to be able to set my home page in the settings, I do not intend to recruit people ever single time I log in to odesk

1) I believe manage my teams

1) I believe manage my teams page shows people from all teams within a company in a combined interface, but it will not have affected their actual contracts.

2) The site is designed remember whether you were last on Recruit or Manage (or Find Work or My Jobs) and return you to the correct tab when you return to the site. However this is cookie based so it'll only remember within your browser.

1) you are wrong, there is

1) you are wrong, there is definitely an error with the new interface and my administrator account, all contractors are mixed up and showing in the main account and are not showing in the correct teams, the contracts are correct and even if I view a specific team they are not showing.
2) The correct tab is showing when I return

Then please contact Customer

Then please contact Customer Support to have your account checked.

Start screen

It would be very nice if the tab 'Manage My Team' would be opened on startup.

Again I'm having problems

Again I'm having problems with "little red icon". It was fine by few days. Now again problems and this is a big problem, I believe for every contractor.

All this new navigation misses:

1. A complete overview video of how to use this navigation and reach something you could do with the older one in a flick.

2. A detailed E-Book.

3. Separate Blog/youtube channel with tricks to understand the navigation better.

4. And perhaps something to put on your computer screen so that colours look a bit more interesting.

For the rest of us, here is something from Oscar Wilde:

We can forgive a man for making a useful thing as long as he does not admire it. The only excuse for making a useless thing is that one admires it intensely.

Cheers!
Sohail

I'm satisfied with the new

I'm satisfied with the new look but my one and only problem is "red icon" which is very important. Now I must have open my mail all the time to see new messages and notifications.

If anyone continues to have a

If anyone continues to have a delay of more than 15 minutes on the "red icon" (or another other weirdness, like it reappearing after being read) please contact Customer Support to file a report. We need those reports to track down any outstanding bugs.

I like the old navigation better

The new oDesk site is good but honestly I like the older one better. Actually, for the first time I joined oDesk, the appearance of oDesk is the new site, like now, but when I tried the old navigation, it felt very easy to me.
I think, it will be better if oDesk gives us option to choice, the new & the old navigation to use.

I don't like new navigation

This navigation is not suitable for me, it is tough to use, i like previous one very much. If possible please go back to our old navigation.

I am missing my old navigation very much, this new is not good for us.

"See all notifications" always on the top near "Notifications".

Hello,
I would like to see See all notifications link right after a message "Notifications" (notification dropdown box when click to notification icon).

The reasons:
1) I'd like to see all the messages history but not only a few last notifications.
2) Most important: I have a cool mouse but a broken scroll wheel. I don't want to change it.
For me it's a habit to scroll a pages using a scrollbar instead of by mouse's wheel.
In case of a large list of messages, that link appeared at the bottom and need to scroll.
But when I trying to click to scrollbar, that dropdown notification box appeared a hidden (because I missed a focus), hence I don't have an ability to do 1-st step because I haven't this link.

I would like to see "See all notifications" always on the top near to label "Notifications"

Thanks,

The same issue with "See all messages" with "Messages"

The same issue with "See all messages" with "Messages"

It's pretty standard to put

It's pretty standard to put "see all" type links at the bottom of lists. But maybe the Notifications & Messages menu header/label (the first line of the the little pop-up) could be linked too? Does that make sense for what you're asking?

agreed

Yes, it is fine too I think.

Yes please

I don't like how contractor

I don't like how contractor profile looks now.
It is difficult to find something there, and put all things to the same page is not good idea.

The previous contractor profile (with tabs) looks much much better than current one ...........

Someone may be working to down oDesk reputation

Hi,

Last time I was get very bad experience for new navigation that are not like by 70% odesk user.

And now new provider profile view are a rubbish design that make confuse to understand a profile at a glance.

oDesk may forget a thing that right now all the website putting a feature "DASHBOARD" that help people to find anything at a glance. Now odesk are doing opposite and getting down day by day with all this bad and rubbish feature.

I WANT TO ASK ODESK MANAGEMENT:-
1. WHAT IS THE MAIN BENEFIT OF ALL THIS NEW RUBBISH CHANGES?
2. WHICH PEOPLE ARE THINK THAT THIS IS GOOD?
3. WHY ODESK ARE NOT HEARING IT'S USER NEED? BECAUSE 70% USER DONOT LIKE ALL THIS NEW RUBBISH FEATURE.

WE WANT A LINK FOR PREVIOUS THEME AND USER FRIENDLY DASHBOARD

IF ODESK NEW RUBBISH PLANER THINK THEY ARE SMART THEN I HAVE SOME QUESTION FOR THEM:-

1. On Old design we can view balance/pending by only going home page, So right now how many click we need to see that? do you think bother people are a SMART WAY?

2. On old menu we can access contract by 1 click from navigation. So right now how many click we need to see that? Do you think this is SMART?

3. I have many more things like this to tell.... SO can you please inform us why you doing this?

WE PAY 10% CHARGE TO ODESK, ODESK ARE NOT FREE SERVICES. SO ODESK MUST HEAR IT'S USER NEED.

THE LAST ALTERNATE WAY IS TO LEAVE ODESK AND GO TO OTHER WEBSITE.

AND FINALLY DO ODESK MANAGEMENT REVIEW THIS FORUM? IF SO THEN IT SHOULD BE TURN OLDER VERSION IN THIS TIME.

SO we think some team may planning to down odesk and odesk foolish management are doing so....

VERY BAD BUSINESS PLAN.

Thanks,
Arafat Jahan

About the site Improvements

WE love improvements and updates but your site nowadays looks so much clutter. not organized buttons. Can we have the old face of odesk back.It is more organized than this new improvements. A well organized site will affect its users capabilities to do their works effectively. Thank you and I am looking forward hearing from you soon.

My opinion....

Hi,

Good day to all..I like the old one., it looks formal to me.Everything/every details about the contractor could be seen by the buyer, and I think it adds to the credibility of the contractor. The new look, looks cluttered..less information could be seen..the color distract the text from the screen, pls,, put "verified" to us, contractor,...that would be all for today ...Hoping for your kind consideration...

Liza

New navigation is

New navigation is uncomfortable. The messages and notifications are very good, but other is degraded.

New Navigation

I did not like the new navigation at all. Its not at all good, its not user friendly

Is there any way to switch

Is there any way to switch the old system version back?
Or at least tell me how to see the other members of a team I'm working at, and to see their work diaries, like it was before.
Thanks!

New Navigation

I guess first comment is that change is always hard for humans to accept. Most seem to not like the change, but I think it will take time getting used to, and hopefully whatever was missing from old version can be worked into new one?

An item I noticed as missing that I think is rather significant is in Contractor's skills. I think it has been streamlined too much and the settings that were noted here are not something that were retained (by me) nor do I remember exactly the level I assessed myself at. I realize good cover letters cover this for prospective employers, but I honestly can't see reason why this would be streamlined. Perhaps that's just me. Thing is, if I list say Wordpress as a skill of mine, I'm equal (in oDesk theory) to anyone else that lists Wordpress, which isn't how it was under old system.

Other than that, I am basically okay with changes and think it'll take time getting used to it overall.

Dashboard?

Who was this new navigation designed for?

I realize that we all have different things we check for and use; I don't use the search at all anymore. All but two of my current clients that I have going right now I brought to oDesk through my own marketing efforts and referrals from past clients - they did not meet me through oDesk. So I hate, absolutely hate, that now most of my page when I log in is a list of jobs that aren't related to my skill set at all, aren't even jobs I would remotely be interested in, and there's no way to close or disable that at all.

I preferred the old screen that had the notifications and alerts, which were features I actually used.

I also miss the button that allowed me to view my contractor profile as others saw it - which made it easier for me to find my referral link for when I emailed potential clients to have them come join oDesk to hire me. And the little block that showed what my current balance was as well as my pending balance. I don't mind that there were certain things there that I don't use, like id verification, because they were small and unobtrusive. This major search things blocking up 2/3 of my screen with useless information (to me) is ridiculous.

If you're going to spend this much time trying to streamline a new page, at least give us a dashboard so we can pick and choose which features we want to see upon logging into oDesk. Who knows, some people might want their inbox, some people might like the search, and some people might wants updates and forums.

And the skills thing? I tried to let it transition my skills to your new system, and it won't accept Drupal 6 and Drupal 7 as separate skills. It tried to combine them as "drupal" and then when I tried to add Drupal 7, I got as far as "Drup" and it said "this skills is not recognized. Did you mean 'loadrunner'?" What? No! Drupal 7 is very different from Drupal 6 - and most clients know that. If they are searching, the clients will search for "Drupal 7" or "Drupal 6" depending on their needs - so they need to stay separated. As a client, I would hate being forced to sift through 100s of contractors that are Drupal 7 if I needed Drupal 6 (and vice versa) Don't "update our skills to your new format" if the format is lacking - allow us to update our skills. We know how to run our business and market ourselves, at least most of us do, so let us do that.

I Totally Agree With You

MAINLY odesk may have overflow their user, and they want to lose user by doing all this rubbish features.

Odesk management are business planer but they don't know how anyone need to search, as like same Prestashop have many version like 1.2, 1.4, 1.5 etc, that all are different, and buyer will search this differently. But new RUBBISH system will not able to search definely.

Day by Day everywhere people trying to define well search result, but odesk trying to make itself an area of time waste.
