You may have received a notice that Local Currency Wires (PKR) will not be available starting July 31st.

We are working diligently with our banking partner toward a quick resolution. While we do not have a precise date for when Local Currency Wire will be available, we estimate it will be available by end of August.

PKR transfers unavailable: what other options do we have now?

Hello,

In regards to your notice above, can you please explain what this means for contractors who have been using the local wire transfer feature till now? Do you mean we will still be able to withdraw earnings as usual to our local currency bank accounts (PKR) via US dollar withdrawal? Will that option work with a local currency bank account, i.e. a PKR account, not a US dollar account.

At this time we will only be able to send USD to your bank account. Do you know if your bank will accept USD and convert it into PKR for you? The other alternatives include Skrill and Payoneer.

I had to delete and

I had to delete and re-register my PKR wire transfer account as a USD wire transfer method even though it's the same bank account. It still shows up as "inactive, contact support" in my account. Why is that so? Why doesn't the status appear as "pending" or "active"?

Are you sure you entered the details correctly. Deleting and re-registering the same account might be the issue (Just guessing here) Do contact support, they'll be able to help you out.

I did contact support. They're not helping out and just dragging their feet as usual.

If you just go and disable the PKR wire transfer, what else do you expect contractors to do to try and use the USD transfer method other than deleting and re-registering the same account for USD. You're not making it easier for us are you?

Thanks for taking the time to reply and for your helpful advice and tips. I found you to be more responsive and helpful than oDesk support which is quite disappointing considering the handsome commission that oDesk deducts off our earnings each week.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what I did in the first place but it shows up as "inactive, contact oDesk support for slow and time consuming assistance". For some reason, it appears that this is a daunting task for oDesk support as they've probably never faced such problems in the past and will take quite a lot of work on their part to provide a straightforward answer as to what's causing the delay.

One would think that switching between PKR to USD wire transfers would be quite straightforward and easy but that's not the case.

I don't think doing it again will be any helpful. That will just give oDesk an excuse to delay things even further and reset their "feet dragging" timer to zero and tell me that I have to wait another 72 hours for them to "look into this and update you".

It's a shame that oDesk didn't consider it appropriate to inform contractors how to switch to the USD wire transfer method without causing so much frustration and repeated requests to their customer support.

Customer support received your ticket and escalated the issue to the engineering team yesterday.  Our engineering team reviewed the issue and found a bug that they are working to fix. This issue should be resolved by end of day today. You should have received a similar message from customer support.

You are welcome Omer. If I remember correctly you can add multiple bank accounts for wire transfer. Try setting up a new one and then add you bank details, leaving this one as it is, may be that will help. The support may be a bit slow but they always provide me with a solution whenever I've needed it. They probably get hundreds of problems every day which makes the response a bit slow... Sit tight, and hopefully your issue will get resolved.

Which bank are you using

Which bank are you using Omer? To the best of my knowledge, you can receive USD transfer to a PKR account, the bank will convert the dollars to rupees using interbank rates.

I'm with UBL. Do the local banks usually charge for USD wire transfers? They didn't for PKR transfers.

I only know about SCB, but my

I only know about SCB, but my banker tells me that incoming wire transfers are free. If there is an intermediary bank involved then you will face additional charges. You can check this with your bank, if previously there were no additional charges on your LFT, I'm guessing your USD wire will go smoothly too!

Many thanks. I think funds are transferred via HBL or some other bank to UBL but I can call up my bank and ask. As per the info you've provided, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. The only problem at the moment is odesk dragging its feet in regards to the USD wire transfer payment method setup. Let's see how long it's going to take.

Didn't get a chance to call up my bank but I think it should work without any issues. It's just a regular wire transfer and they should be able to convert to PKR and deposit to our accounts.

Did you try and initiate a USD wire and did you have any issues? I haven't done so because of odesk's delay and will just wait till next wednesday to do so.

Also, Payoneer is another option if you have the card but it's a little too expensive if you ask me. They'll deduct $3 from your hard earned dough in terms of "monthly maintenance" even if you do 0 withdrawals using their card.

I had no problem in receiving the payments

I had local currency account with ABL and my money was transferred to my account within 24 hrs. Using usd wire transfer.

i had to add an intermediary bank(citi bank newyork) while adding usd wire transfer method

The exchange rate is also ok (pkr94.7).

The overall payment experience is fine but till august 31st during which we only pay $5 instead of $30. After that either odesk should keep it by $5 or introduce the local wire transfer option as before because $30 is to much for small developers like me

But i apply for an account there if you guide me How can i setup USD wire transfer and also how to add intermediary bank(citi bank newyork). I will be thankful to you.
you can also tell me if you know any cheap and easy way to get the payment.

I just entered my PKR account at HBL in the USD wire transfer, I hope everything goes well. Really afraid after reading the comments here. I hope I don't have to face similar problems.

I came to know that HBL's pkr account is able to receive USD payments and they'll convert it themselves to pkr. But can someone tell me how much do they charge for conversion?

It's best to check with your bank. UBL has also confirmed that the funds will be converted to PKR and deposited to the local currency account whether the wire transfer is in USD or PKR.

Financial Account Suspend - Is it Due to Wire Transfer Failure?

I also found this Wire Transfer notice with my account. And today I see a notice of Financial Account Suspension, without any reason. Without any prior notice.

Although I am working here from 1Year as a contractor and I never found any problem with my any transaction, either via Wire Transfer or PayPal or Moneybookers. My feedback, client relations and comments are also very much positive.

I am wondering if this is only due to Wire Transfer, current situation to Pakistani contractor. My whole Financial Account is suspended.

Sorry to hear that. odesk support should let you know the reason. Have you heard from them yet? Did they give you a reason? I hope it's not because of your location.

I also hope the local wire transfer closure has nothing to do with the recent issues with Standard Chartered and HSBC in the US.

I did a USD wire transfer yesterday but didn't get a withdrawal confirmation email which odesk usually send to confirm that they processed the transfer. This was the norm when using local wire transfers. Not sure if they've processed the transfer or if there are any issues.

I have not got money withdrawn on 25th of july through wire

Its been 16 days i had withdrawn money through wire transfer.
It was supposed to be in my bank account till 30th july. But have not got it yet. Latter i received an email that wiretransfer would not work in August.
I contacted Odesk support and after so much frustration. They told me that they are unable to deliver money. So, it will be back in my Odesk account. But i have not got it yet in my Odesk account too.

Now i have received this response on ticket.
"Our bank requires more information fromyou. Our fraud team is sending you an e-mail requesting this information - as soon as it is provided we will send it to our bank and then hopefully the wire will be processed. "

What is this? Can you keep your word? Can i get a logical response from you guys? Please dont lie. If you can not deliver, return it back. So, i may use some other withdraw method. Its been 16 days day and now yuo are annoying me. Do you even understand what i feel every time checking my bank balance.? I am not getting proper support on this and this is insane. Please sort it out before i start hating Odesk. I am getting response on ticket after two days.

I am getting almost the same issue that i have made transaction on 25th july and got a response that i will get payment on 30th july as expected date but its 11 August now and i see my bank balance after every 12 hours.Really got frustrated by that.I contacted support and waiting for their response.Its a mess.I am worried whats happening.

Hope that odesk will work fine and dont disturb the payment issues as they are very very sensitive.

Did you withdraw using the local currency wire transfer method? If so, maybe that's the issue as oDesk disabled this withdrawal method on the 31st. Maybe it affected all withdrawals that were made a few days before this date?

Have you asked oDesk to do a trace wire and did you contact your bank as well? Whenever there's a delay with a wire transfer and funds don't show up within 10 business days, you can ask oDesk to initiate a "trace wire" to find out where your funds are.

That sounds like a very serious matter and a cause for concern for all contractors based in Pakistan. How long have you been using the wire transfer method and which bank are you with? Also, what sort of info did they ask for? I hope this problem has nothing to do with any particular city in Pakistan because of its geographical location, etc. I'm in Karachi and did not face any issues with the most recent wire transfer.

This is a matter of grave concern for all contractors who work hard each week and withdraw funds regularly via wire transfer. It would be great if odesk could address our concerns and inform us if there are any issues with withdrawing our hard earned money to Pakistan through legal means using the wire transfer method.

I'd like to request oDesk to make public any issues which could cause delays so that we're aware in advance. Does this problem affect all contractors based in Pakistan or just in specific parts of the country?

I've asked them on 11th of July they have sent trace twice and today I've received this message...

"We apologize as we are not able to give you any update yet since your bank is not responding to our bank's request. Our Finance department is continously working with the banks involve.

Is your bank account in your name? Did you ask for a trace wire to locate where your funds are? A trace wire can take a few days to complete but odesk support will let you know if their finance team has initiated it.

As a rule of thumb, if your funds are not delivered within 10 working days it's best to ask odesk to do a trace wire because it really doesn't take that long. Under normal circumstances, your bank should deposit funds to your account within 3-5 working days.

I've an experience about wire transfer that I wanna share here in the community, may be it'll be helpful for others in near future.

About a month ago, I transfered an amount from my oDesk account to me local bank (ABL) via Wire Transfer. It must reach in the bank within 5 working days (as told by oDesk support team) but it did no reach until 19th Aug, 2012. I used to contact with oDesk support on daily basis. oDesk told me that they are trying to complete the bank trace and in the mean while I've to wait. Suddenly I got an sms from my Bank's side that I've got all of that money in my account and now I'm satisfied.

I think in Pakistan, Skrill is difficult to use? As I have a bad experience with it too. If somebody wants to read it too, I posted it at that time too, you can read it here https://www.odesk.com/community/node/25934 .

The only method which is working in the best manner in Pakistan, in my point of view is the payoneer card.

1) After creating Skrill account I verified my mail address. they will send you a letter to your given address with a password. just put that password in your skrill account and your address is verified.

2) i did a withdrawal from odesk to skrill. althu they said it will take 2 hour but it was done just in 5 minutes (or less)

3) I transferred my money from skrill to my HBL account.my HBL account was new (created one day before my withdrawl) so i dunno how exact time it took to reach my account but it was not more than 4 or 5 days.

4) i transferred 518 USD from odesk. 1 dollar odesk withdraw fee while skrill withdraw fees 2.22 USD. and the ammount in my account was 47 thoundans and some hundreds (lolz i dun remem exact amount as my ATM card is still not recieved by me)

About your 3rd point. I've been using Skrill for a couple of months, the Skrill transfers your amount to local banks within 2 working days in Pakistan. You got your amount 2 or 3 days late.

I got an email notice from odesk today about the USD transfer discount being extended till September 30th. That's very nice of odesk. Just wanted to say thank you to odesk for looking after our interests and for your efforts in resuming this service. Hopefully all issues will be resolved soon.

Also, I've noticed that USD transfers are much faster than PKR transfers were as the former are usually credited within around 2 working days. Has anyone else noticed this as well or is it just my local bank which got its act together?

Please see my posts above where I've mentioned that USD wire transfer has turned out to be a lot faster than PKR transfers. You can use it to withdraw funds to your UBL account. There shouldn't be any issues but you can call up your bank to confirm just in case.
