Should I end the contract?

I hired a contractor to fix my site. They said it would take 25 days
and its been 14 days so far. So that is not an issue.

The issue is the following. So far all the work that has been done is changing the theme and editing fonts, and the real work that I need done nothing so far. But that is not my concern, well not my big concern.

My big concern is after they edited the theme, they said new theme is working and I quickly was able to point out 12 areas where the theme was not working. Alot of them were in the fonts, using white fonts on a white background, or other unreadalbe areas.

The second issue was that links that were previous working with my old theme were no longer working. They have since fixed 1 of 2 areas. But it took about 3 days to fix.

Then today, they fixed some more errors, These errors were created by their new theme(not previous errors on of the site) I once again went on the site and showed them no it was not fixed. I am concern because the areas they are working on is the minor stuff right now, and I feel they are a) taking a long time with these small issues b) they are not checking their work and saying something is done when it is not. It gives me pause for concern for the big changes, changes where I might not see right away if their is an issue.

I do hope you made a complete

I do hope you made a complete backup of the site, before the work started.

Before mentioning anything to contractor about ending it, change the site password.

I am curious about something, is this a WP site?

fixed price or hourly?

What type of project is it, Rachelle?

It is fixed priced. I payed

It is fixed priced.
I payed 20% of the contract so far,
It is too fix a php web site.

Have you got a back-up of the site?

Do you think your contractor is incompetent or just not paying enough attention? Maybe you could give them two days to get up to speed. The problem is that if you have no back-up of the original site you may end up spending more to get a mess fixed than to start from scratch....

What was the contractor's feedback for similar projects like?

Have you mentioned to them that you are really quite unhappy? Made it quite clear what you expect?

Being German I tend to be a little more direct about what I do or do not like and how I want things done. It doesn't always go down too well but maybe before throwing the baby out with the bath water it would be worth trying the direct route? If your contractor has the skills and has just been sloppy that may make them pull their socks up. If they are actually incompetent it might scare them into admitting the fact and refunding some or all of the upfront to protect their feedback?

Yes I have a backup of the

Yes I have a backup of the site.
I have told them I am not happy with the progress of the site.
They said it will all be done in 5 days. That was on Friday so 4 more to go. They did a good job with the theme of the site, much better then my previous contractor.
But I have not seen any proof that they have the skills to do the hardcore coding.
I sent them a list of errors that need fixing.
For example. When you press the home button- It should take you back to the mainpage- it should not exit you of the system

You should not white fonts on a white background.
When your asked to enter data, their should be a place for you to be able to enter the data.
When you are reading the terms of service,
I personaly find it annoying too start reading it Black font on white.
Then halfway switch to Black font on Blueish, then later switch back too black on white

and these are the minor issues.

Have you GOT 4 days to spare?

I guess if you have 4 days to see what happens then that might be fair enough. If you are on a tight deadline that would cast a different light on it.

I am pretty much in awe of people who can do websites properly and having meddled with trying to do so made me appreciate how easily fixing one issue can cause 3 others to pop up, so I tend to consider the period of one being developed "work in progress" as long as the end result is correct.

Having said that I dislike that they are not noticing things the way you do.....

This is incompentence.

Beginner stupid stuff errors.

No double checking.

Cut them off. All I see is a major headache coming out of this.
Lost money. bad feedback to you for revenge.

I have given them 24 hours to show me they can do the job.
I have signed them the task of not allowing duplicate user names in the
registration form and the form needs to give the user the correct access to the site. After that I told them I will have too look into other options.

so I ended the contract.

so I ended the contract.
Went back to the programmer whom i have been using in the past who
has produced great results for me. Did not use him in the begining as i wanted a new design for the site and thats not his strength.

"new design", work with

"new design", work with him.

If it is graphics, do what the client does for me.

I suck at graphics and color coordination. tell the client in my app i do.

get hired and they send me a PP of the pages or send me to a web site
and say we want this color that is in some location on that site.

Send me a PP and I will match it.

----------------

I am so bad at matching colors, that all my pants are blue jeans and all
my shirts are plaid earth color ( long n short sleave ).

Oh, and my socks. All the same color.

They do black hat seo !

Oh shit, it's too risky to use white fonts on white backgroungs becuse it's an a black hat seo methode! Please tell them to remove those text imedeatly, because google will ban these kind of website! Trust me i'm an a seo expert!
