Complaints with Previous Employer

Due to change of management, the employer **removed by admin** mislead us into thinking that we still have a job. We assisted in the transition, gave reports, etc. Few days later, they locked our company email accounts saying that they was a hacking issue (but he may actually be going through our emails so he can find something against us) and they need to reset the passwords.
We then received an email that we will have our new assignments in a few days but later, we found out that our contract has ended. Not only did we NOT receive an advance notice, they did not explain to us why After all the promises and assurances, they terminated our contract. Even worst, we were given 1 star rating, which affected our profiles tremendously.
We worked for this company for 1.5 years and we have been at our best performance. None of us deserve to be treated like that and smear our profile with poor rating/feedback.
Is there something can be done about this? I sincerely hope that odesk won't say, "no, take it up with them". How can we when they barely even communicated with us during transition. There should be a policy to protect contractors from situations like this.
