Rate to charge

I am just coming back to using odesk....

Last time I worked for a contractor they told me that I should not bid so low. I told them that I bid that low because I seem to have a better chance to possibly get the job. I am not in this to get rich I just want to have a little extra money on hand in case I need it. So, what I need to know what is the average amount that every one bids for the following:

Personal Assistant
Data Entry
Email Responding

Any suggestions would be perfect.

I am surprised you have

I am surprised you have gotten the eleven jobs you have had.

Your overview does nothing for you at all.
What are you trying to do, sell your kid?

Anything about family has no business being in there.
Applies to picture also.

I see nothing there to entice a client to want to hire you.

You have already started a precedence of accepting low paying jobs.
Going to take a lot of work, good feedback, and higher pay to work
out of that.

But not till you rewrite your profile.

I am not trying to sell my

I am not trying to sell my child. Can you give me an idea of what I should say that way I might have better luck of recieving some jobs please.

nevermind.

* I don't have one. It would be a bit of a commute even if I did. And I couldn't post one...that's frowned upon these days.

Nobody's going to hire you to manage their data if you don't get the basics right. Also, if you're based in the US then nobody is going to take you seriously if you're working for less than minimum wage. Your feedback is not very good at all...you should work harder at making clients happy. Fix your profile. Charge more. Do better. In short.

You need to get real...You

You need to get real...
What skills? You have none.
You graduated HS in 2002 and no further education.

Where is the education to backup that you were a substitute teacher?

You do not qualify as a 'substitue' teacher when you can not use proper
English, nor proper spelling. Are you an example of what is teaching
our childern today? I sure hope not.

All you need to be a Sub for my district is a High School Diploma

50 cents per hour

50 cents per hour....how can anyone in the US (or anywhere in the world, for that matter) be desperate enough to charge that low? Sad Increase your rate, but do better in your jobs too. The low feedback (+ the low rates) is not helping you any.

If clients did not find that they got value for money...........

If those clients of hers did not find they got value for money even at those low rates (and judging from the feedback received the clients were, overall, not happy) then the rate was too high for what the client received.

Personally I have no problem with people charging low rates when that is all their work is worth.

In this case the clients are telling her that regardless of the charge, the work was not worth the money they paid.

The choices in such a case are to pay the clients to work for them, or find something else to do.... Preferably not teaching children........

Melissa,

1. Get rid of the family picture. No client cares.

2. Don't mention your kid in your overview. No client cares.

3. Tell your prospective clients EXACTLY what you can do that can make their job easier. Whatever that may be.

4. Look around at what other EXPERIENCED, PROFESSIONAL people in your category are charging, and charge accordingly. The keywords here are experienced and professional, NOT those people working from home or the "mommy bloggers."

5. Clean up your profile immediately. Spellcheck is your friend.

6. If you AREN'T here to make money, then find a B&M job. You won't make ANYTHING here with that kind of mindset.

Profile

I have changed my picture, changed my objective & changed my hourly rate also added some more information. Please let me know what you think.

sorry to say

For starters your profile pictures should be you only. I have been here at Odesk for 3 years. It has been a long hard road. I've recently obtained an ongoing client base that's keeps me busy all the time. My profile has underwent several changes (thanks to the nice people in the forums). I'm still not completely satisfied with it.

The sad thing is you are specializing in data entry. That is one of the lowest paid jobs on this platform and many others. You need to broaden your horizons past data entry. Look through postings and see what pays well, enroll in courses that are in those categories.

Freelancing takes hard work and dedication. Focus on obtaining different skills and give it some time. Your profile is your "Baby" take care of it as such.

Your Overview is not worth a flip. Period!

i'm not really happy with my

i'm not really happy with my profile either, even if odesk says it is 100% complete, but that's for a different topic.

you should take more skills tests and you should pass them with an 'above average' mention. and remove those tests that scored below average!!!

your overview doesn't impress me at all. try and use a catchy phrase like "Im the person you're looking for, when you need fast data entry of any kind, at a convenient rate!'
