Update on issues with BPI, BPI Family Savings and BPI Express

To all Filipino contractors using BPI, BPI Family Savings, or BPI Express:

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been having difficulty sending funds to users with BPI using Local Funds Transfer (LFT). This was caused by a change in our banking partner at the end of September. We know how important it is for you to have easy access to your funds and are working hard to get the problems solved.

Here’s an update on the two major issues:

BPI fee waiver:
Refunds have been sent out to those who were charged a fee to receive funds at BPI. Due to bank holidays, you may see these refunds in your account this coming Monday or Tuesday. If you do not receive your refund by then, please contact Customer Support.

Funds not received:
Users banking with BPI Family Savings or BPI Express have experienced difficulty receiving funds. Currently, if you try to transfer funds to those banks they will be returned to your oDesk account, which can take over a week. If you haven't done so already, please file a ticket so the support team can track your withdrawal and return the funds to your oDesk account. For now, we recommend using PayPal or an alternative bank to withdraw your funds.

We truly apologize for what we know has been a frustrating experience. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact our support team.

LFT to BPI

Would just like to share that a withdrawal I made from oDesk last Oct. 24 was credited to my BPI account yesterday. Perhaps kinks in BPI's system have already been fixed as of Oct 31?
That was my first withdrawal from my first oDesk job!!!

I got mine yesterday (Oct.31), I withdrew last friday night (Oct.26). But when I checked my BPI online account, it says as "payroll" with P10 service charge, before it was "remittance" with NO charge.

I've been waiting for updates on the Tickets I filed and I made several followups and was given different information. I did what i was told that i should just monitor my account and still my funds did not show either in my bank account or my oDesk Account. I was advised to wait for 24 to 48 hours last Oct 29 and nothing happened. I tried following up with the support agent handling my ticket but she stopped replying after informing to just monitor my account. I tried requesting for an update after that advise but she never replied. Please review my tickets and chat logs and you will find out that I was given different responses. and finally an agent told me that there was no trace initiated while the support agent handling my ticket said that there was a trace and has given me a date that i will be receiving my Funds please check my tickets so you can see what i am talking about.

I withdrew my funds last Wednesday, November 7. I received your email regarding EFT and was informed the funds would reflect on Saturday morning.

I was wondering if there's an update on the usage of terms for lft-bpi 'remittance/payroll issue.' Will this be corrected? It should be 'remittance' again and not 'payroll' as we may have a problem here. Thank you so much.

From remittance to payroll

Another concern about that if it's called a 'payroll' and not 'remittance, it will imply that contractors are receiving salaries. Clients and contractors have no employer-employee relationship but rather a business relationship.

Bank statement of accounts have a 20-day period for the depositor to complain for corrections and are then considered correct with BPI having no liability as per BPI terms and conditions.

With the term 'payroll', contractors may be subject to income tax on salaries. This should be corrected, the earlier, the better.

I haven't receive my remittance on Oct 18 and Oct 24. I did talked to customer service on Oct 29 and they told me to follow up on Nov. 1. They replied to me today about the changes and delays but they haven't solve my issue about my withdrawals or refund. Please review my concern.

what seems to be the problem with that? if we are using that before and it is working properly.. and our account is already saved in odesk every time we withdraw funds so we don't have to retype it.

Still no funds

Michael, I withdrew my funds last November 11 and still have not received a cent in my bank account. Please give me (or us, for that matter) a plausible explanation for this. I have bills to pay as well and I need my hard earned money. If waiting for your bank transfers will take more time, just please return my withdrawn funds back to my oDesk account so I could explore other ways of getting my money.

With UnionBank, I did not encounter such problems. When I request for withdrawal on Tuesdays, the payment is credited to my bank account by Thursday evening or Friday.

Withdrawal Issue - Still Waiting after almost Three Weeks

I got the same issue.

I got a withdrawal last Oct 13, 2012. And it still was not credited on my account yet.
I've been waiting for almost three weeks already. And that made me so frustrated. I still have some pending money that I would like to withdraw..but I'm just too afraid to do another withdrawal for it might be stuck somewhere again.

I have a ticket submitted:

But why is it it's been three weeks that the finance department is not doing anything about it.I haven't got any development at all.

I obviously need money, that's why I'm working right?

Delayed Withdrawals

Hi Guys,

The withdrawal I made last oct 17 and 23rd hasnt arrived on my account (bpi) nor refunded on my wallet. I already submitted several support tickets but they are just giving me contradicting information. I am worried because some contractors here had their refunds process already and mine's still not there. The support specialist who's handling my issue is really not helping, she's replying to my queries after a day!

here's what bpi told me:

Greetings from BPI Express Online!

We understand that you sent funds to your BPI account through Odesk last October 17 and you have received advice from them that this should be processed by October 22. We regret to say that we found no record of receipt of the said remittance. Allow us to explain that Odesk transfers are treated as regular remittances only as we have no special or direct tie-up arrangement with them yet. Thus, Odesk is unable to send remittances to BPI directly and must course transactions to other banks or remittance service providers until a direct transfer is possible. May we suggest then that you coordinate again with them your account verification concerns.

For those of you who already received their refund what did you do? Please help me, what I'm feeling right now is beyond frustration.

Same here! I did talk to customer support this morning and he said that they do not have information as when the refunds will return.They just told me to wait until Finance team gets back with new information.Unfortunately, the only thing we could do is to wait for a reply in our existing ticket from their Finance department.

Can you guys suggest me of banks that process remittance quickly except for RCBC which I tried before! I am planning to change my bank which is BPI to ensure that this will never happen again..

Earnings Refund For Withdrawals made in Oct.

Like you i am also a victim of this situation. My withdrawal last Oct. 17 was already refunded or reversed as they say to my oDesk account however unlucky me i have made another withdrawal last Oct. 24. This was not returned yet. Even if we had our earnings returned to oDesk another problem is facing us. Where to withdraw and transfer our earnings for now. BPI returns the money to us when we withdraw because oDesk's new intermediary bank does not seem to know how to transfer our money to BPI. You know why, because our account for BPI Main is being transferred to BPI Family Savings and of course since they are not our depository bank they will return or say our accounts are invalid. I don't want to swear or say anything distasteful, but oDesk is a big corporation, right? How come they cannot rectify their mistakes or request the bank rectify the error as soon as possible. With the advent of modern technology and with everything done at a click of a mouse, we are made to suffer days to receive money we earned the right way.

I don't know about you or the other contractors who suffered the same fate as we have but i am thinking of asking legal help for this concern. I do have a right to even if i had followed oDesk regulations to the T.

I have two “floating” withdrawals dated Oct. 22nd and Oct. 25th. I have contacted several chat support reps who all happens to be nice and accommodating. However, they’re all giving the same answers. I’m just wondering if posting here in this forum would make a difference. For your reference these are the Ticket #s / Incident reference numbers:

I understand that these reps (who have been very gracious in providing me support) have most likely done everything in their power to assist me. I understand how their hands could be most likely tied on this issue, I understand processes, I understand how long holidays could affect these processes, and I understand Odesk is doing the very best they could to resolve the issue.

But please understand that this is the time of the month where bills come in and they demand payment in a weeks’ time. We can’t possibly tell them to hold off disconnecting my electricity and water and phone service until the Finance Dept is able to get a response from our local bank. If Odesk – BPI – LFT issue can’t be resolved instantly (I’m reasonable enough to know it’s not possible), is there any possibility that the amounts withdrawn be credited back to the Odesk wallet the soonest possible time without having to wait for the response from the local bank? I mean, you have the records of the funds in question, is there a way you can credit it first to the Odesk wallet so we can on our end find a different way to withdraw it and then you can continue working behind the scenes to make the necessary adjustments in your books or something? I understand of course if this is not possible as it would probably be against certain process/processes that you have. But please, if there’s any way to credit the withdrawn amounts back the soonest possible time, not just mine but my fellow contractors as well…it would be highly appreciated.

i have communicated w/ BPI FAMILY SAVINGS BANK remittance/ CS Division and they have been telling me that they haven't received anything from odesk nor it's partner. no activity is seen since my oct 24 withdrwal from odesk. rejected remittances would still be seen and labeled.
they are inviting odesk and bank partners to communicate w/ them as to resolve this issue. email can be sent to [email protected]

you mean BPI Direct?

I think the term "BPI Express" here is used erroneously. I think this refers to those who had accounts with "BPI Direct".

BPI Family Savings and BPI Direct are two subsidiary banks separate from BPI. All three banks come with different financial statements and different top management.

BPI Express is an ATM product (could be savings or checking) offered to all three banks BPI, BPI Family Savings and BPI Direct.

I have BPI Express ATM accounts at both BPI and BPI Direct but I am aware BPI Family Savings is also offering such account.

Technically if BPI Express accounts are affected, then this will refer to any BPI Express ATM accounts opened at BPI, BPI Family Savings and BPI Direct.

It's also worth mentioning that I had been able to successfully get my oDesk remittance using my BPI account (yes, the main bank; I didn't use BPI Direct) two weeks ago. With that I'm thinking that there is no problem with any accounts opened at main BPI branches except for a bit more delay, but for those who are with BPI Family and BPI Direct, their funds could possibly be returned.

I have filed a ticket for this, hopefully the finance department or the thread poster clarifies this announcement.

It would be helpful if oDesk could confirm Gemma's point. If the update above from Monica actually meant BPI Family Savings and BPI Direct (not BPI Express) withdrawals will result in the money returning, then this would seem to confirm that BPI (that are not BPI FS or BPI Direct) with BPI Express accounts are safe while the other two are still not. I did have a successful withdrawal October 29th, which arrived either late on the 31st or early on Nov. 1st.

Still experiencing problems with LFS to BPI FS account

It really does seem that the problem is with BPI Family Savings. I just checked my account and there still is no pending remittance record in my savings account. Take note that I made my withdrawal last Oct. 20. I was patient enough to have taken into account the holidays. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for my money to be sent either back to my oDesk account or my BPI Family Savings account.

FYI, it also seems that the live chat option in the support section of oDesk has disappeared. They haven't replied to the response I made regarding the support ticket I filed. Again, I have to wait another two hours, days...not sure how long. I withdrew a huge amount, and since oDesk is earning a lot from me as well I should expect better service.

Impatiently Waiting.........for my Fund Transfer

I am using the BPI Family Savings...and worse, I made the withdrawal last Oct.15. That's almost a month of waiting, impatiently!

And the support people is just saying the same spiel....that the finance team is making the trace.
If you all are saying that the issue is with the BPI savings account...then should it really take a month before you can actually make the trace or do something about it?

Yes maybe oDesk should check on this, problem could be because of this issues. I applied and got my BPI-ATM Express online and until to date I haven't got any problem with it. Well as of today my latest withdrawal is a day overdue. Another possible problem is the Bank code Odesk or it's partner Bank is using, just to let all know I had a remittance from Australia and the Bank in Australia ask me the meaning of BPI and if BPI Family is different from BPI and code they needed is a SWIFT code, different from what oDesk is using. Point here is oDesk partner Bank might not be familiar with BPI and BPI-Family as the Australian Bank who transferred my funds..thus funds gets mix-up, sent to he wrong bank?

Maybe Odesk needs to look into this matter in such a way tracing where the problem is.

As regards to the 150 fee, got mine refunded by BPI after 3 days of my 1st withdrawal last October. And I have not got any charge as of my last transaction with BPI.

I would prefer BPI, coz even with the 150 fee, so far I see they are the lowest.

BTW, even my remittance from dubai that we received has no problem so far. except for the 150 fee.

What has happened with chat

What has happened with chat support? It just shows that there are 7 users ahead of me and it's not moving at all.

I have tried calling the (855) 676-3375 number and no one seems to be picking up either.

That Oct 17 withdrawal that was supposed to come back and return to my oDesk wallet on Nov 2 is still not there. My ticket got a response Nov 3 which is still in limbo up until today. My Oct 24 withdrawal has not credited to my BPI account either, which I am guessing 99% will go back to oDesk as well. How much longer do I have to wait?

I haven't received any updates yet regarding the same issue i had for the withdrawal i made last Oct 24 and Oct 31st..I hope we can be updated appropriately.This is where weget to feed our family so the word WAIT is not really acceptabl;e specially for soomthing that wehave worked hard for.

An Update from BPI 11/05/12

I just called BPI and they said that they are currently waiting for the updated LFT - BPI lists made and had issues for the past weeks so they can transfer it back to my bank account. They said it will be 24 hours of waiting. Hopefully they are telling me the truth. I got anxious when I read all of the comments here. I hope to get my LFT on 10/24/12 and 10/31/12. My bills can't wait to be paid.
