Our beta site is live! What do you think?

Starting today, oDeskers are getting a first peek at our new beta site.

The updated design will help you read, navigate, and take care of business easier than ever. But it’s more than just a pretty face! Under the surface there’s a major code overhaul, making the site quicker and more consistent. Even better, we can roll out new functionality and fix problems fast.

New capabilities are coming your way faster than ever before, including:

  • 1. A new My Contractors page that lets you track your current team, as well as past hires and saved contractors (launched yesterday!)
  • 2. Message Center updates with upcoming fixes to address issues you’ve shared with us
  • 3. More powerful search and Job Feeds to help you find the jobs and contractors you want (in beta now)

To access the new site:
Log into oDesk and look for the “Try the New Site!” link at the top of every page. Give it a click, and...voila! New site. (You’ll be able to click back to the old site whenever you want.)

To give us your feedback:
Report the good, the bad, and anything else using the “Share your Feedback” link at the top of the page. You can also send your input via this feedback survey.

We are rolling out the new site over the next several weeks, so if you don’t see a link yet, it will be there soon! And our drive to make working online easier than ever before has just begun, so keep your eyes open for more improvements to come.

Happy working,
The oDesk Crew

Not starting out very well are you. Maybe a foreboding of things to come.

Beta site rolling out over a few weeks

Yep - that's right. We are rolling out the beta site to customers over the next few weeks. As we said above, if you don't have the link yet, don't worry, you'll see it soon! We just wanted to give everyone advanced notice that this was coming.

Maybe not written very clearly, but it's there. Should have said 'To select few clients' or something if not available to everyone

Loving the new site design so

Loving the new site design so far. Looks great and you didn't lessen our options or reduce or features for a change. Good move. There's still a few blatant css issues such as the top navigation going haywire in the forums but this is a beta.

I'll let you guys know more after I've tried it out for a few days.

Disappointed...

Path: My Jobs > Reports > Timelogs

Earlier there was a link to download PDF version of weekly timelogs. I was regularly using that to update my records. Unfortunately, new interface doesn't provide the option to download a PDF report for weekly activities.

I hope oDesk will take a look and fix it on urgent priority.

I can't remember I ever

I can't remember I ever clicked that new site link though I can't see it now. Also I can't see any link for the old site.
Is it still a choice, or the new site is default now?

I got the link and have just

I got the link and have just tried the "new site". Surely, it's not really my taste (to be kind). It reminds me to freelancer.com, which is a site I escaped from very fast Laughing out loud However, the rates here are getting closer to that of that site so no wonder the design is also similar.

no thanks

Definitely not to my taste, either. I really wish that (at least) the profile spacing was the same; I did some fun formatting and it looks horrible in the new style. Alas, I don't know if clients are seeing the old (good, I think) version or the new (not as readable) one, nor which version I should format for.

Will this new site become the default in the near future, or..?

Hopefully not. And not only

Hopefully not. And not only the design is awful.

On the "old" job board, we can get some info about the client without clicking on the posts to see the details: award ratio, how much they spent, location, etc. On the "new" job board you can only see the clients' stars and number of reviews.

In my view, it is important to see the amount they spent on X projects: it is not the same if they paid $20 on 4 projects or $1000 on one. I don't want to waste my time reading a Cheap Charlie's post.

I personally returned to the old one and will use that as long as I can.

Same here

I like the new site

As for me, I like the new site, most specially the color combination and size of the font, which makes everything more visible, lively and easy to read. I also tried using the new message center, some of the problems that came up with the last one have been fixed. My overall impression of the site is good. In fact, I've already opted for the new instead of the old. Innovations are a good way to welcome the New Year.

I Love the old site, the new

I Love the old site, the new one is not attractive Sad

Why Blue??

I don't see a single change over the current system other than the blue color.
GREEN should've been more appropriate for the header.

Personally it looks crap compared to the current white/grey subtle effect.

Veni, Vidi, Vici.

The blue colour is not good

i have join new site on odesk. there is all good but on the heder colure is looking bad for me. if there have green than it will be batter.
thanks soharab.

love the blue color, reminds

love the blue color, reminds me of the ocean. don't like the green color though, reminds me of veggies.

How to get back the old site?

I cannot find a link to get back the old site. Can anyone help me? I had clicked the cross on the message to get rid of it.

On the new contractor search page, I cannot sort the contractors according to hours/rates etc. This is why I would like to go back to the old site.

Old site link

Yes the Old site link is still accessible Wink

Nice Look

Font size big enough, in first look it seems a gaming site...

Just got the link - not bad

Just got the link - not bad but not good either. I mean I dig the rounded corners and the icons, bigger font is slightly annoying but I can get used to it. Colors are a bit sharp - everywhere, not just on the header. For example the wallet tab where you have blue & green - it's one thing to have enough contrast, entirely another for your eyes to start hurting after 3 seconds. Don't get me wrong, I love that green, it's one of my favorite colors; but having it that bright on white = eyesore.

eta: and I preferred the messages on the icon top-right - was there a good reason for moving them?

change happens

I like the design and understand your desire to keep working on it. That said, any loss of functionality just doesn't wash. I can't seem to find an advanced search for contractors now. Is that my fault or have you removed it?

I found new site is slower

I found new site is slower than the older one. I love the look of the older one. Smile

New site

I'm using the new site. It's colorful and handy!!

Colorful is not Professional.

Colorful is not Professional.

Veni, Vidi, Vici.

I think the current design is

I think the current design is barely professional and the new design throws professionalism out the window. But money and time has already been spent on it so we'll have to put up with it anyway. Smile

I would much rather have had more useful features like the ability for Clients to create personalized lists based on skills, etc. that we can fill will contractors we've worked with in the past and would like to continue to work with. Writer Access calls them "Love Lists". Then the ability to send invitations to apply for new jobs directly to these personalized lists (list selection on job creation form). And of course you can still allow those not on the list to apply as well if you want. This would increase contractors chance to get relevant job posting invites. One can do this now but has to do it from a large search list.

Whatever, this site is business related and I think it should maintain a more professional appearance. It doesn't have to be bland but it shouldn't look like a website for pre-schoolers either. Smile I feel like getting out my coloring book when I go to the new site.

How i get old look back?

Will anyone tell me how i get old look back i dont like new look Sad

old site is no longer available

Now we cannot shift to old site.New site is the one and only option.

Want the old site look back

What is up with the new site? Now we have to get used to this and figure out how to navigate around? It's really bothersome to know that they can keep changing things, their customer service is very poor (chat, tickets, and phone number). You call, no one answers, the automated recording comes on and says to leave your name, country code, telephone number and a brief message about why you are calling and you WILL get a call back within an hour. I have been waiting 2 days now for a call back on the initial call I made, and been waiting 12 hours for a call back on the 2nd call I made to them. I've created a ticket on 2 days ago, and haven't even received a response yet. Is this site even real anymore?

Yep, turned in a ticket, 20

Yep, turned in a ticket, 20 days later I get a response that they are now working on my ticket.

And what's up with the Clients last viewed, are they able to hide that now?

A number of job posting have multi interviews over what appears to be a three day span, but no date shown for last viewed by client.

Worst Design :(

The previous design was way too good and I really don't like the current design Sad

Sorry guys, but old version

Sorry guys, but old version was much better. Sad

Worst Design

It is awful.

You Should Have Asked for User Opinion First

As every successful business should know, a total site revamp can result in a disaster if your users are not happy with it. You should have posted snasphots of the change and ask user's opinion on it. While you can always add in more functionality, overhauling the look successfully requires user satisfaction first.

It may take time getting use to the new platform, but truth be told, it hurts the eyes and doesn't have the peaceful affect that the earlier shade had. You can atleast restore the same font/color theme if not anything else.

The "Try our beta site" link

The "Try our beta site" link has been around at least 2 months prior to the overhaul. I mean I'm not overly fond of the new design either but at least they did gave a trial link. Plus, they have tested it apparently - the other thread mentions 70% approval rate for the new design. I have no idea who they asked to get that number, but apparently they did.

/// Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it's the courage to continue that counts.

Site sucks

The colors are horrific and it needs to be user friendly to some of the people that don't have the latest and greatest as far as computers and software etc, old tools work just as good as new ones do, if you buy a shiny new screwdriver guess what, it does the same thing as the old one.

Really Pathetic design
