Happy 500 hours to me :)

I just noticed that my counter now says "500 hours" exactly Party ! Never thought I'd get there.... especially considering how I landed here entirely by accident!

I know it doesn't look like "much" to many of you, but considering that the vast majority were added in the last 6 months, alongside a very demanding full time job, I am a little bit proud of it!

The next 500 will be largely clocked 3000 km from here, in my new home in Southern Italy. 8)

Congrats! It's a great

Congrats!
It's a great achievement you got there. Funny how i also came here totally by chance. I was browsing some news as usual and read that Google was outsourcing on Odesk. I was like wtf, online money are not scam ?, gotta check them out!. Just been here for over 10 days but I'm already clocked 32 hours with 5 jobs on the queue. It does get hectic with my current full time job but so far so good!

Totally jealous with your new home, away from the mist and to the sun eh!

Thank you Cong!

32 hours and 5 projects in the queue - when you've only been here for 10 days is great!

I got here "by accident" - I had needed to find a way to get my Royalty payments (long story) and eventually Payoneer offered me a virtual US Bank Account. When I was looking through Payoneer's "Payment partners" I saw oDesk. I had never even HEARD of online Freelancing platforms before and was very suspicious initially.

Where will

Where will you be based in Italy? Should I have the chance to go backpacking again in Europe, will you show me around? Laughing out loud I met up with Anna P. from Germany when I was in Berlin last year. We had a lot of fun talking about oDesk and our work here. Smile

Vasto :)

I'll be in Vasto, which seemed as good a place to start as any Wink I know the general area a little bit, it is stunning and still not totally overrun by foreign tourists. And Yes, visitors are welcome, just not everyone at once.... Laughing out loud

Thanks

Thanks! It looks lovely!

Grats

You have certainly put in your work Petra. Great reviews, lots of work, great profile reasonable rates. I hope you enjoy Italy! Its beautiful.

Thank you, Charles! Italy certainly IS beautiful.

I fell in love with Italy last summer. It's a bit mad moving to a country with only a basic grasp of the language,to a taown I only ever saw a glimpse of from the motorway, and where I know nobody, but I'll give it a go! I'm not particularly looking forward to the journey.... 3000km - I just hope the cat doesn't drive me mad within the first 2 days! Laughing out loud

Yeah

A friend of mine spent 3 months in Italy studying their agritourism program. (Bed and breakfast with everything organic grown right there on the farm). Then backpacked across Europe for 3 months. After she got back about a year later we went to watch that new exorcist movie with the Hannible guy in it. She cried just because she wanted to go back to Italy. Everytime she saw something she was at (like a fountain in a court).

I know the feeling

I was the same when I got back, and I was only there for 2 weeks..... Literally homesick.... I have travelled a lot both privately and with work, but no place ever had this effect on me.

The agritourism industry is booming! With more and more people everywhere getting more interested in organic food and healthy lifestyles this is a growth industry and is benefitting especially the poorer less industrial areas in the South (where I am going.) Part of my longer term business plan is to help local businesses to reach the lucrative German and British markets by utilising my languages as well as my sales and marketing background. The low cost airlines have started to fly lots of foreign tourists in and hardly anyone speaks English or German. All those hotels, restaurants, real estate agents, tourist attractions and so on are missing business because they can't reach those potential customers.......

Of course I don't speak Italian yet (although I can read it reasonably well) so I will see all those potential clients all around me and won't be able to reach them until I get to grips with their language. Smile

Yeah, her dream is to open

Yeah, her dream is to open one of those agritourism places here in the states.
