My Profile, and how much to bid

Good day! I am still patiently waiting for the responses to my application letters. I am a serious job-seeker and I am so eager to start asap. I have been only active at Odesk a few days ago. Can any of the seasoned contractors/clients give me inputs about my profile? Any mistakes found or any suggestions? One more question is, how much would I bid if the client has a budget of $1.75/hour? Should I bid $1.75 exclusive of the odesk fee or should I lower it down so that the over-all charge to the client is just $1.75/hr? Thanks guys!

Honestly....

Frankly, you shouldn't bid on it at all Sad $1.75 is a sham rate offered by bottom-feeding clients who don't want to pay a decent rate for good work.

Few suggestions: You've done really well on some tests and not so well on a couple. The ones where you scored below average I would recommend hiding them from view. I would also recommend you modify your overview so that it's not so "I" focused; you want to let potential clients know what YOU can do for THEM not vice versa Wink

Also: You're not looking for a home-based job, you are now officially running your own business so get that out of there Wink

I would recommend increasing your rate - it won't stop you bidding on lower-rated jobs but it looks more professional.

Welcome to oDesk and good luck!

First, I have a question for

First, I have a question for you: why would you consider bidding that low, when it's even below your own hourly rate?

For the profile:
- I'd hide the 'Below average' test scores.
- the overview sounds more like PR message than a real professional overview. I'd focus more on particular skills and include more details about them.
- you market yourself in a highly competitive niche with low rate competition raging. It's not that bad of course, but it'll make the chances of landing gigs tighter. I'd try to find a more specific skill that can be marketed a bit higher and go with that.

/// Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it's the courage to continue that counts.

Thanks! Comments are appreciated.

To Doreen and Bojana, thanks for the valuable inputs! I will be editing my profile and I hope it gets better. Laughing out loud The reason for the low bid is because they said that would only be for starters, and rates will eventually go up. And since I still lack experience, my proposed hourly rate was that-- over a dollar and decided to up it just a bit to $2. Hope you don't laugh. Laughing out loud It is a livable amount here where we live in. It's only a bit frustrating nobody wants to hire but no worries, I won't stop. Tongue Thanks again and good day!

Been to your place and quite familiar. Home town of my not so distance relatives. Check around the forum, it will give a better perspective on how much would be the going rate for your skills (based on your test results. the good ones). Take Doreen's advise and yes, keep on bidding.

Good luck

You're selling yourself for

You're selling yourself for customer oriented work and have taken several tests but not the customer service test. Is it just hidden due to low score or have you really not taken it?

I may have not taken most of

I may have not taken most of it, I did get a passing low score in phone etiquette. I hid some tests, only since yesterday as advised. Those were passing but mediocre scores. I'll take enough tests later today. Thanks for leaving a message. Smile

test expired

Call center skills test isn't available for me at this time. I did not flunk it because it is not showing in the summary of my tests (public & private). I remember taking the test for a few minutes but I did not finished. I will be taking it as soon as I'm allowed to.

This is the Customer Service

This is the Customer Service test I was referring to (or is it too?).

sorry I didn't find this test before

Done. top 30%. I know these kinds of test are not a guarantee, but it keeps ourselves just a bit forward. A stepping stone perhaps. I have a long way to go. I'm still trying to improve my profile overview. :/
