I absolutely agree

That the client has the ability to hire without my approval is ridiculous. How can it be considered a legitimate contract if both parties have not been given the chance to actually agree to the terms.

Applying means, "I want to talk about this job." Not "I want this job based on the present terms."

I agree.

Accepting an interview invitation does not mean we accept the contract/job. I recently received an invitation, I exchanged a few messages and next I know I had a new contract in my jobs tab. I think I should have ended it, instead I started working. I am worried that the client did not invite me to meet on Skype to interview for the position.

Actually, Natasha...

That looks like a very reputable job. They needed someone in a hurry, you fit the bill, and they hired you. Sometimes it happens that way because companies don't have the time to talk.

Looking at their past history they don't hire just anybody and they pay well. In fact, they pay so well that you should have upped your bid for this one. Wink

Thanks, Cate :)

Yes, I guess I don't need to worry Smile I still would have liked the interview, only now I find out things I didn't know (typical when you don't have the opportunity of an interview). For example, the job posting they have on oDesk is not me who will handle it and I thought I would. I do understand that the client does not want to be limited to oDesk to find the professionals he's looking for, but I wanted the oDesk part.

Yep, I want to talk with them

Yep, I want to talk with them on Skype.

Not only do they interview me, but i get to interview them also.

It is not a one way street.

I completely agree. I have

I completely agree. I have been freelancing on sites like odesk for 4 years and this is the only site that does that.

IF I apply for a job here on odesk, and the client would like to hire me, then I should get a notification that says, "Client X has selected your proposal, do you accept?"

What if someone applies for a job, and then decides they don't want to do it but the client has already awarded it. seems kind of backwards.
