We are looking to work with an experienced UX/UI designer to help us redesign our website (WordPress). Our website is a cannabis publication that reviews products and provides educational information about cannabis and plant medicine.
Preferred Experience:
- Do you understand the needs of cannabis users?
- Have you worked on a publication/news website? Do you understand the needs of users who are looking for product recommendations and health advice?
- Do you understand the needs of mobile users?
- Do you feel confident about creating designs for people who don't like to read?
- Have you conducted usability tests (e.g. UserTesting, Lyssna, Hotjar, etc.) to understand how users engage with information-heavy websites?
- Have you completed any UX training? Do you follow the latest UX trends from organizations such as Nielsen Norman Group?
- Are you confident in taking a creative director role? We have a good sense of what we want but would like your help to improve the design by using your experience and the latest UX research.
The purpose of our website is a mix of Wirecutter (product recommendations), Healthline (evidence-based health information), and Consumer Reports (investigative reports).
What We Need:
We need to redesign the following templates:*
- Homepage
- Product reviews page
- Product roundup page (Best Of lists)
- Article page
- About page
*Please submit your proposal for the Homepage design only. The remaining templates will be assigned in future milestones. For the Homepage design, we are essentially looking for something similar to Health.com, Healthline.com, and SleepFoundation.org, to serve as a navigational hub for viewers and include some details about us to establish credibility and trust.
Design Objectives:
1. Mobile-first: Over 80% of our audience are mobile users. Our primary goal is to prioritize the mobile experience, especially for users who want to get information quickly without spending too much time reading.
2. User engagement: Since our website is information-heavy, the design needs to include visually appealing elements that engage users and provide a good reading experience.
3. SEO: The design needs to follow best practices for SEO. This means the design needs to be simple and follow the Inverted Pyramid of visual design (display the most important elements first).
KPIs:
To evaluate the success of the design, we will measure the following UX metrics through Google Analytics:
- Average session duration
- Average engagement time
- Engagement rate
- Scrolled users
- Conversions (e.g. clicks on affiliate links and advertisement banners, newsletter signups)
