Database Synchronisation Project

Job Description

Counter Intelligence to Magento Synchronisation Project
We are looking for a way to synchronise our physical store stock system which is Kudos CI (Counter Intelligence) POS / Office, based on a MS SQL Server 2005 Express database, with our Magento E-Commerce online store database, based on a MySQL Community database.
CI Office has the capability in its frontend for our staff to input all the information about a piece of stock that would be required for Magento. We want to develop a method to input this into our Magento MySQL database in a scheduled manner. We also would like to keep stock levels in sync between these two databases in a scheduled manner on a more frequent basis (at least once every thirty minutes).
In this vein we have looked into Magmi, an alternative to the Magento Dataflow API (as the API is only capable of updating a few rows per second, leading to increased server load and wait times), which inserts or updates values directly into the Magento database and has the required functionality that is missing from the Dataflow API (such as creation of catalog trees on the fl, can be called via PHP or a CLI). Magmi is capable of inserting or updating over 100 rows per second
We have already conducted a significant amount of work and gained a non-trivial understanding of the CI MS SQL database schema and can provide advice and prior work towards the locating and massaging of data from MS SQL into a format readable by Magmi.
We do not possess the required knowledge of the Magento MySQL database schema to provide any advice towards the creation of a direct database to database synchronization, however if this was achievable within a similar budget we would be willing to look at this option.
We also do not possess the required knowledge of other alternative Magento APIs such as ApiImport that do possess more required functionality than the Magento Dataflow API (however not as much as Magmi).Once again we would look at this option if it would provide a better or cheaper solution.
More information about the mentioned programs can be found;
