Redesign and prototype for patented combination lock
The lock needs to function in the dark so when a combination is set the user can unlock the lock by pushing the buttons extruding on the housing a preset number of times to the correct combination. For example, a combination of 1,2,3,4 would have the user push button one, 1 time, button two, 2 times, button three, 3 times and button four, 4 times. If a mistake is made, the user pushes up on the reset clip at bottom of lock and tumblers are reset to original position for user to re-enter combination.
The original concept was to have a spring hold the combination tumbler at a set position determined during assembly. When the tumbler reset bar is moved up by the user pushing up the "clip" on the bottom of the lock the prawls holding the tumbler in position are released and the reset springs bring the tumblers back to their original setting. At the same time if the combination had been set, the reset clip will push up the tumbler bar through the tumbler key holes and the tumblers and combination go back to original positions. The concept is good for pushing the "clip" up and resetting the combination tumblers to their preset positions. Using a spring to reset the tumblers to a preset position is a manufacturing and assembly headache.
I need a design so the combination tumblers will work and make the design of all components functional from a manufacturing cost perspective. The combination may be preset during manufacture or you can design the lock with a workable combination set by the user after purchase if that is easier. In either case, the lock needs to be operable in the dark through tactile touch and the user needs to be able to reset the preset position of the combination tumblers in case a mistake was made while putting in the combination.
I have included two edrawing files - one that shows the original design concept of the lock and one with a possible combination setting by user. Neither one is functional from a user perspective or manufacturing perspective but each hopefully gives enough clarity to build upon with the right perspective.
To complete this project, I will need finalized drawings with measurements and a viewable file of functions of individual components using solidworks viewer. These files will also need to be in a format that a manufacturer can use and immediately begin the process of manufacture. I will also need a working prototype using same materials and measurements that will be used during the manufacturing process. Ideally, the manufacture cost per piece in quanitities of 1-5K would be under $10.
Payment will be made in 2 parts: $150 on completion and approval of manufacturing design and an additional $450 for receipt of working prototype per description above. I will also give the company or person I choose for this project a 2% equity stake in any net revenue received by me if I am able to secure a licensing agreement with an existing manufacturer or financing through angel investors which enables a formation of a company to manufacture and distribute this lock. This, of course, is based on completing the requirements of this project and that your design is the design used for the licensing or sale of this lock. This offer can be accepted or declined by the person or company chosen for this project if so desired.
