Firefox Plugin and Chrome Extension to detect "Open-Tab".

Closed - This job posting has been filled and work has been completed.

Job Description

We are looking for a plugin for firefox/chrome that will detect a command from outside the browser to open a tab (i.e. clicking on an email) and if a site at the same domain is already running, run a javascript command in that tab instead of opening a new tab.

Workflow:

1) User opens our application at a specific domain, let's say bugs.microsoft.com

2) bugs.microsoft.com is a tool for managing bugs. It has a single page javascript application that has it's own internal tabbed structure. The user opens and is viewing bugs #1, #4 and #23.

3) The user receives an email from the bug system notifying them that they have been assigned a new bug - bug #30.

4) The user clicks on the email to this bug, http://bugs.microsoft.com/bugs/30

5) What would typically happen is that a new tab in chrome or firefox is opened that shows this bug. This is the behaviour we want to change. Instead of the tab being opened; we want to be able to run javascript on the already open tab - which will load bug #30 there.

6) It will need to be possible for the end-user to be able to enable/disable the plugin and see very basic documentation with an appropriate control e.g. bottom right hand corner in firefox.

We will require well documented code and be able to view commits to the code via github.
