Long-term senior Rails developer for immediate start
Closed - This job posting has been filled.
We have an immediate need for a Ruby on Rails developer for a project expected to last around 3 months. Once this project is complete we have a long backlog of various Rails projects so we can keep the right person busy indefinitely.
* Great communications and attitude
* Good English
* Rails experience of 3+ years
* Rspec or minitest
Nice to have:
* Financial experience
* Amazon aws
* Windows (only for authentication :) )
* Availability of 4+ hours between 9:00 an and 7:00 pm USA Eastern Time
Our immediate need is for someone (or a pair) to work 20-40 hours per week to complete a project for commercial real estate risk management. This app will run behind the corporate firewall by no more then 20 people. It is a very important app for this organization and this project has a healthy budget. It will have a "corporate" look. We will adhere to best Rails standards and practices. We need you to make sure we develop according to good Rails practices and standards. We need reasonably good test coverage to ensure that app is maintainable and easy to update. We are likely to have future enhancements to this app and roll it out into other organizations within this company.
The original scoping of the project just completed and we are ready to get the design and development iterations going. The team will be comprised of only one full-time developer (you or you and a friend) and one project-manager that has rudimentary rails and ruby skills, but strong database design skills.
The database has been designed in a relational model using SQL Architect. It is being redesigned for Active Record. Your help with the AR design and implementation in a Postgres db will be needed.
The deployment environment will be on a Windows environment running a Rails and Postgress stack. Whatever the rest of that environment will look like we need to discover together. Our test environment will be on Amazon EC2 to resemble or production environment. Our development environment is whatever you already use on your own machine plus github.
The app is implemented behind corporate firewalls, but still needs a secure roles based security model implemented. The corporate standard is to use Windows Directory for authentication. We will need to figure out how to use Windows for authentication.
We will try to use standards and popular, yet proven, technologies.
We need you to be available for daily standup meetings via Skype, but we would like to have you keep Skype chat on while working.
Optionally, it would be helpful if you could work with the PM (thats me) to improve my Rails by sharing some of the development tasks and reviewing my code. I am good natured and want to build my Rails skills so appreciate coaching.
