Map Interface for Archaeological Site Artifact Data & Photos
Since 2005 I have been gathering data and photographs from an archaeological site (an ancient temple) in Southeast Asia.
The next step is to make my data and photos available through an online database interface synchronized to a simple 2D map of the temple.
An expert web programmer has set up a Windows MS-SQL server with this application in mind, and he has concepts for the database design. We have already created detailed SWG/DWG maps of the site.
We now need an experienced mapping/database programmer to create a plugin so we can locate our datapoints on an interactive, scaleable map, and link those datapoints to photos and information.
NOTE: This project does NOT involve any GPS interface, Google map use, or real-time location updating. The maps, photos and object data are all fixed and non-changing for this single temple site (except for updates to add data and photos on the specific objects).
OVERVIEW OF WHAT WE HAVE
a. a high resolution, scalable map of the temple site (roughly 1 sq. mile)
b. multiple photos of 1800 individual carvings that are the focus of this study
c. roughly 60 characteristics to quantify on each carving
d. a Windows server to host data and the online interface
e. an experienced web programmer
WHAT WE NEED TO DO
a. add the 1800 carvings to a digital map
b. link each carving datapoint to multiple images
c. link the quantitative feature data on each carving to the map location
WHAT THE WEB INTERFACE MUST DO
a. allow users to quickly access any area of the temple
b. transition from map view to photo/data view to allow users to smoothly explore carving images. I.e. zooming to any area of the temple, then moving from photos of one carving to the next (#1 to #2 to #3, etc.), and finally transitioning to detail views of individual carvings and their data.
c. to present this in an intuitive and visually appealing style.
d. allow "advanced" users to search for carvings using any combination of the 60 quantitative features
e. to offer "advanced" users data output options (i.e. reports of search results)
This is a general overview. More technical data is available on request.
I am based in North America and my programmer is based in India. We are most likely to hire a candidate from these two areas. Excellent English communication skills and Skype access are essential.
I am personally funding this independent research project so my budget is limited, however it fits within the parameters of most jobs I see posted on oDesk. Thank you for considering my project.
