Job Description

We require research assistance to locate data, assumptions & general equations to develop a data model in microsoft excel of a hypothetical city.

Base city system needs to model
- Energy usage (electricity, natural gas, oil) across residential, CBD and industrial areas + costs of energy from these sources
- Electricity usage peaks throughout a day
- Renewable energy sources (wind & solar) & grid contributions (input peaks through day)
- Electricity grid transmission (and losses)
- Water usage across residential, CBD and industrial areas + costs of water from sources
- Water transmission around city (cost & energy required to do so)
- Aquifer water source (depletion / replenishment rates based on usage)
- Desalination plant (energy in vs water + CO2 emissions out) + costs of operation
- Transportation (airport & seaport hubs for logistics & people movement), rail transport for freight movement (consider qty of movements, costs, fuel usage, CO2 emissions)

Scenarios to model on top of base city (one at a time)
- Addition of wastewater treatment plant (energy + dirty water in vs water out) + costs of water from this source
- Citywide lighting incandescent bulbs – cost, electricity, CO2 emissions
- Citywide lighting switch to LED lighting – cost, electricity, CO2 emissions
- Replacing ageing coal fired power stations with newer cleaner alternative generation source – cost, electricity, CO2 emissions
- Implementation of energy storage to manage peak loads
- Average breakdown of residential energy usage & savings possible through appliance substitution
- Large influx of people to city for festival / sporting event (& associated demands on transportation, water, and energy systems
