Cartographer for map of Southeast Asia's historic Buddhist sites
Closed - This job posting has been filled.
Cartographer needed for web/PDF and/or print maps which we will release as free promotional content for our book launch. Please read on for details.
We are promoting a book launch for a unique new series on the Architecture of the Buddhist World, check out our site so far: http://architectureofbuddhism.com/
The countries covered in the first book, The Golden Lands, are Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Please see the website to get an idea of the book scope - http://architectureofbuddhism.com/
One of the nice bits of free content to help boost the book launch will be maps helping to place the different historical sites talked about in the book. Thus these are educational / armchair travel maps and not modern / navigational / technical maps. The content and style need to be adapted to consider the main sites and historical focus of the book, while still being potentially useful for travel planners.
I need one overall map of the region with the top points of interest, plus six further country maps, firstly in web-suitable form (such as HTML5 output), secondly in screen-suitable PDF form, and thirdly in a layout and form suitable for printing in poster size. If you are interested in working only on the digital or only on the print version, let me know: ideally I would like to start from the full print version and then work down from there to the digital versions.
In terms of odesk working arrangement we can chat and I will take your suggestions about the easiest way to quote on the work involved, perhaps starting with a small general output and moving on from there.
You need to be able to chat on Skype within UK/European working time.
When your work is published the cartography credit or anonymity is up to you. I will need your professional advice about the copyright considerations of the maps used for the different media.
