ADVISE FOR REDESIGNING USER INTERFACE AND USER EXPERIENCE
Newslibra is an online platform that allows the user to compare different information from all over the world, giving them the chance to compare different national opinion over different topics. The original website ( www.newslibra.com ) presents a homepage with a list of topics: the user can choose a topic, for example edward snowden. Once done that, a world map appears, and he can choose a nation, for example russia. When he chooses a nation, he will see a list of articles coming from that particular country talking about that particular topic ( in this case he will see a list of russian articles talking about edward snowden ). The user can now translate the article with google translate and read it in his own language. The user can also give a neutrality rating on the article. In this website the user upload the article and the topics through the ‘add a topic button’ in the homepage and the ‘add an item’button presented in the compare pege.
We unfortunately noticed the user had a hard time understanding how the website was working. We also wanted to improve the website’s features.
We would like you to help us finding out what those features should be, and how to improve user experience.
Some work has been already done and we present it here and in the attachment to allow you to understand where we are so far.
We thought about changing ‘comparing information to think free’ to ‘comparing information’: we want to put it on the right of the logo, and not under it. Also we wanted to change the menu, first of all switching the colors ( orange where the action is located, and grey where the other items are located ). We also wanted to have arrows or numbers in the main menu buttons so the user can see at wich point of the process he is.
the user will no longer be part of the process of inserting news as we are working on a xml/rss aggregator that does that way more efficently, so we want to hide the ‘add a topic’ button and the button that permits the user to upload articles. the aggregator will upload different language articles for every nations, as there are, for example, newspapers in english published in China. We will the be able to show our users articles coming from a nation far away, but still in a language they can understand ( as we know google translator is not always the best ).
Also, we would like to get a user opinion for every topic, putting a box in each topic with a different question and different possible answers.
The user will than be able to choose two countries, and not just one, so he will more easily compare the news in the ‘compare’ page.
take a look at the attachment for more clear and detailed informations about the changes we want to make, and tell us what you think about it. Also, if you have ideas for the design, you are welcome to expose them. in the attachment some pages talk about the backend and the cms, do not take care of those nor of 'additional notes'.
