Bluetooth Low Energy Beacon with Programmable Firmware (iBeacon+)
Our job requires persons with experience in wireless/RF technologies and wireless design, specifically Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) design. The deliverables of the project will include:
1. BLE Beacon Design (see additional requirements below)
2. Prototype beacons (qty. 10), for testing and validation before manufacturing
3. Firmware development to allow us to change identifying information of the beacon in the advertisement of the beacon/services & characteristics of the beacon.
4. (Not guaranteed) Taking project to bulk production in Qty. 300-500+
This project will require BLE beacons to be created with the iBeacons advertising protocol (see Apple iBeacons online, or we can discuss in more detail) in addition to services/characteristics set by us. The board should be made with the TICC2540 (or equivalent in terms of price, functionality, and robustness). The advertisement of the beacon should be alterable in the firmware so that we can uniquely set each beacon's unique identifying information. Furthermore, the beacon should contain service UUIDs and characteristics UUIDs and values that are also alterable in the firmware.
When the beacon is advertising, the advertisement rate should be settable in the software. The beacon's configuration in terms of whether it is only a broadcaster, or advertising and connectable should also be able to be set in the software. Furthermore, the connection interval of the beacon should be able to be set in the firmware. Also, the beacon should continue to advertise the main iBeacon advertisement packets when the device is connected to from an external device. The beacon should have a micro-USB interface to allow firmware upload. The beacon should also have an ON/OFF switch. The beacon should also be robust, and should last for several years under continuous, but normal condition use. The footprint of the beacon should not exceed 1.5" x 1.5" square, and the beacon should function efficiently for at least 1 year continuous use on a single coin cell battery.
After prototypes are developed, tested, and validated, we want to take this design to manufacturing. Freelancers with access or connections to bulk manufacturing capabilities will be preferred. We believe the final cost in manufacturing in Qty. 300-500 units should be 5 USD to 8 USD each.
Development of prototypes is desired for turnaround within 3 weeks of starting the project, but this is negotiable.
