We need to develop three basic open social gadgets for the users, our website offers users a personal home page with frequently updated (daily) content.
We need three gadgets fully compatible with the Google Gadgets layout settings and fully support both Home (default) and Canvas view modes and with options to display catalogue data in List View and Grid View formats.
An example of a Google Gadget, can be seen herehttp://www.gstatic.com/ig/modul
Incorporating customized code into service classes of Shindig we will develop OpenSocial gadgets for YouTube, Amazon Store browser and Top Ten. Find Gadgets summarized as follows:-
Fully designed and developed solutions that work well under both the default Home view mode and Canvas view mode as often show on iGoogle (we are developing an OpenSocial/Apache Shindig solution very similar to iGoogle).
1. YouTube gadget - based on the YouTube API, the gadget should display the latest/most popular (trending) videos for a selection of defined 'channels' e.g. Music, Entertainment, Games etc. The content should also be regionally relevant to the user where appropriate.
2. Amazon store browser gadget - linked to the Amazon Associate account, this monetized gadget enables the user to browse Amazon product categories for a selection of defined channels e.g. Music, Entertainment, Games etc. The content should also be regionally relevant to the user where appropriate. The Amazon gadget fully integrated with our Amazon Associate account for monetization.
3. "Top Ten" store browser gadget – likely to be linked to something like Commission Junction/Price Runner store catalogues, this monetized gadget enables the user to browse product categories for a selection of defined channels e.g. Music, Entertainment, Games etc. The content should also be regionally relevant to the user where appropriate. Likewise the "Top Ten" gadget. We are not quite sure how this gadget will be monetized. We hope to display the top ten of items such as top ten games, gadgets, entertainment (films?) etc (with daily updated) which may require linking the gadget to some source and then when the user clicks on an item they are taken to a shopping portal for the best prices for that item. Here in the UK we have Commission Junction / Price Runner (like this site uses - shopping.net) but not sure what solution could be used in the US. This is a gadget for Commission Junction/Price Runner will display products.
All of the 3 gadgets should have a clean, clear and similar layout so that they appear part of a "set".
Shindig's basic implementation is a good starting point – the rendering and social data access are independent components and can be replaced depending on the needs for it has to be used.
