I have strong background in UNIX/Linux software development, Master's Degree in Computer Science. I worked on Enterprise high-load distributed hosting automation systems as a Team Leader (3.5 years in SWsoft, Inc., now called Parallels). For the last 6 years I'm running my own small software development business in Russia with primary focus on Python/Django apps. Not pure Web but often involving integration with hardware (Proximity Cards, Sensor Screens) or external systems like Payment Processing, SMS Gateways, GABRIEL (Airline Reservation System), etc. I can take an idea and turn it into a working business, through all the intermediate stages. Also I have experience of investing my own funds in my projects, so I feel the difference between "perfect code" in a month and "good enough" code that increases the revenue right now. Nevertheless, my code is very good: no copy-paste, always written with performance, flexibility and security in mind, etc. On oDesk I'm looking for (and actually find :) interesting projects with a sight on long-term fruitful cooperation. I'm also open to smaller activities (e.g., consulting) where my knowledge can be helpful.
I like writing programs which make life easier. Given a lot of similar files or a few gigabytes of data, to write a little Perl script to parse them all in seconds is a kind of task I really enjoy doing. While being my favorite programming language, Perl is, of course, not the only one I know. Just like any person pretending to be a good software engineer I can (and like to) write in C, and I used to write some code in C++ (need to say here that I don't like the style of coding when the whole program consists of definitions of various small classes and overloading various methods). I understand and like functional programming (e.g. Lisp and Haskell), and I like using map, reduce and filter concepts in other languages. I'm not a web programmer, that means that I won't apply for any PHP job or, in general, for a job requiring to create web sites. But I used to develop simple web services (Perl CGI scripts, small sites in PHP) and I understand how HTTP works. That means that I can act both as a web browser using telnet and as a web server using netcat and I don't panic when I see Internal Server Error. The last web-related thing I looked at was Node.js; I liked the idea and wrote a few hundred lines of code to see how it works. Just to list some more technologies: I used to create TCP/IP client and server programs in C and Perl both in Linux and Windows; I spent a few evenings developing a compiler and virtual machine for myself just to understand how all this stuff works; I know how to work with databases (just to list some: MySQL, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite), SQL queries, and stored procedures. I was a member of the ACM team of Novosibirsk university (our best result was to reach world semi-finals) and I spent nine years teaching students how to write programs so I understand most of the 'standard' algorithms: searching and sorting, graphs problems, etc., and can explain them if needed.

I love programming because it is doing users life easier and better and my clients business profitable and technologically. I have been developing business, social and promotion mobile applications last of 3 years. Experienced developer of: 1. Offline, client-server apps; 2. Audio, photo, video apps; 3. Maps and gps apps; 4. Integration with social networks, ads and analytics. Also, below in ‘Portfolio’ section you can look at few apps which I developed. You can trust the application development for me. I will do it very qualitatively and quickly!

When I was a student I started working as a SEO, but then I learned Drupal and worked on major high-loaded projects. I graduated with honors from the NSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, one of the most esteemed faculties of Novosibirsk State University. Currently, I continue to study mathematics at postgraduate study.

My name is Alexander, or Sasha. I have 10+ years of commercial Java programming experience, using some popular Web frameworks. I dabbled in PHP and Drupal during my stay in London. Last 6 years, I was developing medium-sized enterprise Java systems using Spring, Hibernate and custom frameworks, using Agile processes, Git and Maven. My main points of interest are usability, rapid prototyping, reuse of existing frameworks as much as possible; and I would like to do more things for the cloud(s). I am learning Python and Google App Engine programming at the moment.
