Over the last six years, I've copy-edited a variety of dissertations and academic articles within the humanities and sciences, and I've developed a close familiarity with details of grammar and citation styles (as I've worked as both a freelance copy-editor and as the Assistant Director of a university-level writing center). Additionally, I've served as the Editor of a major university's literary journal for four years, copy-editing creative writing and, more recently, full-length novels. I've been freelancing on a full-time basis since August, and I've specialized in editing narrative nonfiction, memoir, and novellas & novels of various genres (including, but not limited to: science fiction, fantasy, romance, paranormal romance, literary fiction, and horror). As a published writer (of academic articles, guest blogs, fiction, poetry, book reviews, and creative nonfiction) and a freelance copy-editor, I've accumulated numerous experiences which translate to a more well-rounded copy-editor and developmental editor. I have a particular interest in literary and scientific writings, and read widely in both fiction and nonfiction, allowing me a wide familiarity with various types of texts and professional expectations from separate academic and professional communities. I've also served as a developmental editor on novels, memoirs, and autobiographies. While I am new to oDesk, I'm working to build a varied portfolio and form lasting working relationships with individuals and companies in need of strong editors. My rates and availability are very flexible depending on the job required, so please query me if interested!
I am a fast and good translator, very picky and precise proofreader and quite experienced in data entry, copying, web research, spreadsheets etc. I am very fast and exact in translating written english to german but have — due to a lot of traveling — also a quite good conversational english. I also like proofreading (of german texts so far) with paying careful attention to details. During my studies I gained experience in academic writing (and english) and worked a lot with different statistical and writing applications. Right now im in-between my bachelor´s and master´s program and would like to help you out with anything from translating over writing/proofreading to data entry and virtual assisting.

I have been writing proficiently for over a decade with experience in journalism, legal research and writing, blogging, and copy editing. My four years of experience in the field of journalism not only left me with an impeccable sense for writing, but I also learned to use programs like Quark and InDesign for publication formatting. As a former layout editor, I understand the impetus in meeting a deadline. Writing has been a big component of my academic and professional career. In college, I provided guidance for struggling students as an on-campus writing tutor. When I wasn't in the library fixing syntax and grammar, I was in the newsroom fulfilling my duties as a content, layout, and copy editor. As an Instructional Technology Assistant at Carnegie Mellon University, I was tasked with writing up reports pertaining to my observations and duties. I studied American law for two years, learning in that time how to successfully navigate case law and other written jurisprudence as it pertains to an assignment. In my capacity as a risk manager with an insurance firm, I wrote reports detailing the extent of any given client's financial options within the legal confines of the Pennsylvania Workers' Compensation Act. Given my extensive writing background, I can offer to: - proofread and edit your papers, essays, resumes, cover letters, manuscripts, templates, etc - create original content - write articles, essays, or papers - research and present a given subject - analyze policy text - offer creative input - transcribe audio or scanned files to text My background suits me for a wide variety of writing and editing work. Whether your composition calls for innovation or boilerplate formatting, I have the skills necessary to accommodate such requests. I am familiar with APA, MLA, and Chicago format styles.
Hello! I am a Librarian at Johns Hopkins University. I work mainly with graduate and doctoral students and faculty assisting them with research, research skills, academic citation, and presentations. I have also maintained a literary blog where I reviewed books and worked with authors and publishers to promote new books. At Johns Hopkins I work with faculty and students in the following areas of study: Business, Education, Biotechnology, Museum Studies, and Engineering. I love working with such a diverse group of subjects as well as high level students because they give me such varied areas to research. No two research questions are ever the same! I became a Librarian because I love to teach, I love to read, and I love to research. I'm an expert at both database research as well as standard internet searches. And you're just as likely to find me running them through my computer as my phone. I'm always one search away from the answer. My love of reading led to maintaining a blog for a number of years. I focused on Young Adult, Romance, and General Fiction books; giving reviews and booktalks for the use of the general public and other librarians. I worked with a number of publishers and authors to promote new book releases. This just goes to show that my undergraduate work in literature found it's way into my semi-professional life. I am looking for work that will complement my work as a librarian. I would love to read, write, or research. I find these tasks fulfilling in both my professional and personal life - and I would love to put my skills to work for you. Computer Skills: • Software (IBM and MAC environments): Microsoft Windows® and Office products, WordPerfect, Photoshop, iLife, iMovie, and various iPad apps. Adept at using Follett and Horizon systems. • Experienced working with Blackboard, LibGuides, ELC, My Backpack, Senior Systems. • Knowledgeable in teaching Internet searching as well as all major Database Platforms. • Expert in creating various Wikis and Blogs; working knowledge of HTML.
