    I wish to rise above the ashes of my profligacy and careless spending. I am now fully aware that only in hard work and discipline will I ever achieve my dreams and aspirations that includes owning my own home and providing for the needs of my family in a fairly comfortable manner. I first held a job as an Account Executive for Onapal Philippines Corporation where I learned how to read futures commodity trading and apply this knowledge to investors in order for them to somehow profit from this type of trading. Then I became a Management Trainee at Jollibee Foods Corporation where I learned how to manage and oversee one of their food branches. Next came a stint at my father's trading business where I dealt with local Chinese garments businesses selling industrial garments machinery and raw materials which mainly came from Italy and Malaysia. I did all these in a span of three (3) years from 1980 to 1983 before I joined Philippine Airlines as an airport ground staff where I spent the next 28 years of my working life. As you can see, I was already dealing with people since my graduation in 1979 from the Ateneo de Manila University with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Management. This experience was mixed with learning computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet) and using this technology to advance my communication and persuasion skills. In my years with PAL, I became aware how the entire airport operations works, teaching those operation skills, and being assigned to other countries to perform those skills. Dealing with people also landed me recruitment experience inside PAL when I did all the procedural requirements in selecting, evaluating, and interviewing in-house personnel for advancement to more sensitive functions that directly affect aircraft flight performance such as Weight & Balance and ramp functions. I also taught these skills at our company academy including the unique systems of Qantas Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Saudi Arabian Airlines, and KoreanAir when I was deemed worthy by my company to be sent to Sydney, Hongkong, Riyadh, and Seoul to learn and impart their systems to my colleagues back in Manila because PAL was the ground handling agent of these airlines back in the late 80's and early 90's. Perhaps my crowning achievement in PAL was when I was assigned as an expatriate Manager/Supervisor of our airport office in Xiamen, Fujian Province in China. Spending four (4) years there from 1995 to 1999, I was assigned to handle all airport operations of every PAL flight that arrived and departed there. I also recruited, evaluated, selected, and trained English-speaking local Chinese personnel to become my airport staff as well as to serve as my interpreters since aside from dealing with a consistently overwhelming number of Chinese passengers, I often dealt with Chinese airport officials as part of my duties as the official representative of my company in Fujian Province. I reported directly to my principals here in Manila but I also recognized the authority of our expatriate Sales Manager and our Regional Vice President for Sales wherein Xiamen was included. In all my dealings with these senior company officials of PAL, my decisions and report as well as my written and oral correspondences with them in the English language were never questioned nor doubted. Neither was I reprimanded nor my performance and decision-making in achieving company goals and objectives in my area of responsibility was closely scrutinized for its integrity. I would like to believe I had the complete trust and confidence of my superiors as I dispensed my responsibilities entrusted to me by my company. As I availed of my early retirement in October of 2011, I went into many endeavors that yielded unsatisfactory results. These substandard outcomes were not the result of negligence nor of incompetence. But it was more like I was possessed by an idealism that was not always in tune with reality. I became intolerant of not having people do as I say not realizing that it was I who had to adapt in order for me to achieve the results I wanted. Today, I believe I have come out of those sad experiences a better, more realistic, more tolerant, more incisive, and a more patient man than I ever was.  less
