My name is Kai Sorensen and as a 2013 alumnus of Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts I received a diploma in Contemporary Writing and Production, taking courses that refined and expanded my writing, arranging and production skills. Currently I am the Musical Director for Evolfo Doofeht, an 8-piece gypsy/funk group that has toured most of the United States, released an EP, and are currently producing a second. We tour nationally and have performed with artists such as Rozzi Crane, Red Baraat, Betty Who, and the Hot 8 Brass Ensemble. My position in the band puts me in charge of the development of compositions, arrangements, chart preparation, direction of rehearsals, and live show production. Outside the musical aspect of this role, it requires a great deal of logistical work including tour planning, contracts for venues, handling of finances, planning load ins/outs, and finding lodging for the group when we’re on the road. I’m also in charge of relaying this information to the other 8 members of the group. I should also add that under my musical direction, in the winter of 2012, we received a Boston Music Award for International Artist of the Year. Evolfo Doofeht keeps me very busy but I have come into a position to make time for full time work outside of my responsibilities there.
I have eight years of music/administrative experience in producing, directing, arranging, composing, teaching, and performing having first received my Bachelors of Science in General Studies, Music ed K-12 in May of 2010 from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Apart from my eight years of music education, real life experience has taught me the most valuable lessons. During my time at Berklee I had the opportunity to work with many musicians from all over the world producing, recording, arranging, and performing. The most fulfilling of these experiences though was my opportunity to work with Grammy Award winning artist Luis Enrique. I was chosen out of many to work closely with Luis in order to adapt and arrange his catalog to rhythm section, horns, and strings. While in school at Berklee I also worked as a Learning Center Supervisor and Music Software Tutor in the Learning Center. For three years this job required superior knowledge of today’s leading music software including, but not limited to, Logic, ProTools, Kontakt, Digital Performer, and Reason.
Aside from my music-related work experience, I have 6+ years experience in restaurant management/bar tending.
