I've been in the web development field since 2002, when I started as a programmer/admin for a web hosting company. I've worked on a variety of web applications (generally php/MySQL based) ranging from ecommerce to in-house CMS to data mining/feed processing to integrating APIs and web services. I've worked with a number of PHP frameworks (Zend, CodeIgniter, CakePHP), and generally like working with a MVC design pattern. I've developed web applications from the ground up, as well as modified and added functionality to existing custom in-house systems, opensource applications, and commercial applications. I've worked with various APIs, including: Twilio, Twitter, Foursquare, Amazon, PayPal, Drop.io, Sunlight Labs, EmailYak, and others. I've written wrappers for APIs, as well as written APIs for outside integration into applications I've written. I am comfortable working with other developers and designers. In addition I've been asked to do code review and troubleshooting for projects where I had no active role. My profile on StackOverflow (http://stackoverflow.com/users/45531/tim-lytle) is a good sample of my ability to communicate the details of a development problem/solution. I'm also a Zend Certified Engineer (http://www.zend.com/store/education/certification/yellow-pages.php#show-ClientCandidateID=ZEND011439) with experience administering apache/mysql/php/etc on Linux (and a bit on Windows). Most of my oDesk clients are buyers who need high-level, conceptual requests to be understood and implemented, and the projects are ongoing long-term relationships.
I've worked closely with world-class companies throughout the development of outstanding platforms that have been used by thousands. I'm proficient with PHP and I'm also a Laravel early-adopter - I've been using it since early version 3. I've developed countless applications with Laravel, attended the Laracon conference in Amsterdam and I've written several tutorials that have helped hundreds of other developers. In addition to PHP, I've also used Ruby on Rails extensively to develop complex web applications with full featured test suites. Being a Software Engineering student, you'll be sure to get solutions that are well designed, easy to scale and develop upon. I've taken a CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) by the University of Cambridge and passed with flying colours. Communicating with me won't definitely be an issue. Looking forward to working with you on your next web app!
For the last 12 years I received a wide experience in different technologies and programming languages, worked on different projects from different areas and proved that I can bring the result. I worked as a team leader and as an independent developer and know how to do things right. My system administration experience helps me very much in my software developer's life, it gave me deep understanding how complex systems work and how they are managed.
