I like challenges. I prefer Microsoft ASP and ASP.net programming, but I'm the guy who tackles things that I've never seen before. The guy who walked into a company that developed their own proprietary language system based off Python (why? Because they could I suppose) that was similar to PHP, and picked it up and was developing applications and solving bugs on my second day. I'm the guy who walked into the JSP shop and learned on the fly and was interfacing with EJB's on day 3 (day 2 was administering websphere). Languages come easy to me, and coding comes natural. I wear a lot of hats. You might be able to see that from my experience, but I have a hand and knowledge in a lot of different areas. I can administer a database just as well as I can script middleware for an e-commerce platform, and those just as well as I can make the front-end work in cross browser HTML and look good. I like this because I'm not necessarily stuck doing the same thing day in and day out. Big Scary Projects don't scare me. I've developed government accounting systems that involved more red tape than should be legal, and scripted websites that are now the center for their respective company's customer approach. The thrill in each of these projects was the complexity, and being able to see the big picture and making it all come together piece by piece. I laugh. I think personally that this is something that is more important than the other three I listed above. The world doesn't get me down, and stress doesn't make me crazy. I know how to diffuse tension, and can communicate well with other people, including bosses, direct reports, and co-workers. Specialties • 14 years hands-on experience in admin, development, and management. • System Development Life Cycle – all phases. • Created e-commerce platforms that currently take in 5 million in annual revenue. • Planned and administered million dollar annual budgets. • Researched and managed projects with 2 week scopes to 1 year timelines.
My professional activities have been developed in several directions. Teaching activities cover digital signal processing, digital circuit design, programming of embedded processors, microcontrollers (Intel, Microchip, Atmel family) and PLM, web-based technologies. Preferred MCU's are 8-bit PIC and i8051 (but for amateur projects using Atmel MCU). Research direction concerns the use of hyperspectral data (reflectivity) for the pattern recognition & classification. Additional engineering work - administration computers networks, programming GIS applications for land management, repairmen electronic office equipment.
I have been in the IT industry for just over 10 years. My experience has seen me work in a large multi-national enterprise and mid-to start up size ventures. The energy utility FortisBC had me handling enhancements to the billing & payment system with my code responsible for processing about $0.5 million in daily revenue. My interest in computing has stretched out over the bulk of my life, far before taking it on as a professional career. A snapshot of my skill set includes technologies such as Java,SoftwareAG Natural, PHP, Amazon EC2, Amazon OpsWorks, Weblogic and SQL.
