Over the Last years I have been in many roles that empowered my knowledge and vision, currently I'm working in the International School of Luxembourg as Head of Technology & Support, my job roles are between Team Management and System Administration, I actively support 200 Staff Members, 1400 Students in a school system with 900 computers, 200 tablets, 21 Servers with a team of 3. It's a very challenging job, and very rewarding. Still I have some free time that I can spend empowering your Company, projects or tasks.
In leadership I consider myself an "Activist, Theorist and a reflector".
I like to lunch once a month with other leaders, and discuss my learning results in management, and get help on how managed difficult situations. I like to get involved in team projects, do brainstorming and generate ideas, take on the chair role and direct others.
I want to make sure I'm happy with my decisions. Think and take notes. I want take time to watch the team working, after a difficult experience I like to take one hour or two off, write down what went right and wrong, and what will be different next time. Once a year think on the next year for a full day.
I like to arrange well structured meetings with clear aims, based on management challenges. I focus myself on people feelings, and try to not let blind spots. When meeting with the team I push one management concept at a time, I read management & development articles regularly, and participate in leadership development events. I always ask myself, how can this work on in my situation, where to seek out for interesting projects, with complex issues. I encourage others to ask for advice, and how my improvements relates to my management style.
My Five Management Roles:
1. Leading and Managing (I'm in charge of other people)
2. Managing my Team (A Team was given to me)
3. Managing Upwards and Sideways (Getting things done)
4. Managing my Meetings (Influence one-to-one and groups)
5. Managing Myself (Get the best of myself)
When Leading and Managing I ask myself "What challenges me the most?", then I focus myself in finishing the projects on time, distributing tasks, and maintain my job management style while:
- Understanding the environment (we know what we face)
- Understanding the vision where we are going (we know what we have to do)
- Understanding the organisational values (we are in this together)
- Understanding the feeling of power (we can do this)
I also like to express positively every time and reward the team when we win, reinforcing our sense of victory.
