  • Senior Java/Scala Developer

    - Designing software is my passion, hobby and job. - I can spend days thinking about a problem and then code it in few hours. - I love challenges and complex tasks, multithreading, data-mining and data warehousing. - I love functional programming, Scala and Haskell are not just toys but powerful hammers.

With many years of experience in various IT companies I am ready to propose following services on "as-needed" basis (sorry, no fulltime employment): 1) Complex engineering tasks related to server-side linux scripts, such as troubleshooting, code review, implementation/adjustment of complicated logic. Supported languages: python, perl, ruby, bash, lua. Haskell, erlang, clojure are possible as well. They are subject of special (lower) rates, due to lack of practical experience (versus solid theoretical understanding and general interest). 2) Advisory in organisational questions for small & medium teams. Workflows, infrastructure, staffing, project management (including risks management, resources management, planning etc). 3) High-level design of the service-oriented architectures, data processing (ETL) flows, devops solutions in linux/cloud environments. 4) Any kind of engineering/architectural work related to functional programming, evented programming, nosql. 5) Advisory/troubleshooting on nginx and hadoop, with basic practical experience in high-load web services and massive data processing. Rates are flexible, depending on particular case. Is this expertise exactly fitting your problem? If so, just message me. Not sure? Message me anyway so we will find an answer together.  less

I worked as an artificial intelligence specialist at Pearson for several months after my freshman year of college. I have created novel approaches to a number of natural language processing challenges, and have soundly beat the Stanford NLP project on a number of standard benchmarks. I was scouted by Basis technologies during my sophomore year for work alongside PhDs in the field of Digital Forensics, and Natural Language Processing. I released the first and only open-source sentiment analysis library with near state-of-the-art benchmarks. I have pioneered a number of novel approaches in the fields of predictive analytics and big data analysis, regularly acting as a consultant for the Harvard Innovation Lab. I am currently working with one of the original developers of SolidWorks to create an adaptive gesture recognition platform interfacing with the Leap Motion. I'm fairly new to oDesk, and though I've used it regularly as a project manager, I've not yet signed up as a contractor. Looking for part-time work to discover cool new problems. I am extremely comfortable implementing support vector machines, genetic algorithms, neural nets, latent semantic indexing, pachinko allocation, and a wide variety of other machine learning algorithms, both supervised and unsupervised in Java, Python, C, Ruby, and Javascript.  less
