I have a BA (with honors) from the University of Iowa (also double majored in Linguistics). I also have a Web Development Professional Certificate from Minneapolis Community and Technical College. I have been developing apps for the iOS platform since 2009. I have also worked on native Android apps, and I have worked on and created several cross-platform hybrid apps using Apache Cordova (or Phonegap) as well as custom hybrid solutions. I am resourceful and self-motivated when finding applicable solutions to programming problems (it's like a fun puzzle...). In the past I always focused on Apple platforms and was an expert on the now antiquated Macintosh Toolbox of the 1990's. I used C/C++ on these old generation Macs and on UNIX boxes while studying computer science (we also used early Java on the workstations). I still have a sweet spot for native objective-c development on iOS. Recent projects have included custom Cordova / Phonegap plugins, applications which make use of bluetooth iBeacons (as well as Gimbal BLE beacons), and in the last year I have worked extensively with Location Services including GPS functionality and Geofences. In the early days of iOS development I worked a lot with audio processing and muti-touch interactions. I never really set out with the intent to become a project manager, but I communicate well and it seems my role in many gigs recently tends to creep in that direction.

I am an excellent embedded systems engineer, with 24 years of experience and a history of successful projects. I have worked at various levels of abstraction, and have concluded that the closer I am to the hardware, the happier I am. I have a degree in electrical engineering and am pursuing a degree in computer engineering. I just completed a Certificate Program in UNIX in August 2011. I am creative, thorough, and diligent in my work, and like to work with both the hardware and the software sides of the problem. I have worked in a variety of fields, including robotics, medical research, consumer electronics, and military. I prefer to write embedded software mostly in C, with a little assembly as required. I am comfortable with Real Time Operating Systems including FreeRTOS, uC/OS, and Nucleus. I write very good documentation. My hardware expertise includes 8/16/32 bits CPUs, from PICs to ARM9 to Cortex-M3. I am comfortable with various interfaces including I2C, SPI, UART, and USB. I have written code for a wide variety of things, including graphical and non-graphical user interfaces, numerous sensors (temperature, ADC, accelerometer, magnetometer, and others), and motion control.
Having more than 20 years of experience in computer programming I familiarized myself with a wide variety of programming languages and solved a multitude of diverse problems. In the past few years I mainly worked on C/C++ and shell-script projects. I also have experience with Perl, Python, PHP, Microsoft Excel VBA, XML, XSLT, CSS, software design and testing.
