Thank you for reviewing my oDesk resume. I specialize in managing outsourced projects from start to end. I have over 20 years of experience in the IT Outsourcing industry, beginning with programming, progressing to project management and finally business analysis. Apart from general software development, I am an expert in BACnet configuration and programming and SAML2 single signon systems. My expertize includes technical documentation: Functional Specification, Software Requirement Specification, Software Design Specification, Project Plan, Test Plan, Workflow Design and Analysis, etc. I am also an expert in drawing up Statements of Work (SOW) and Contracts/Agreements. As a long-time programmer, I have expertize in various programming and scripting languages, allowing me to manage both desktop applications and web development for commercial, engineering and cad/cam applications. DOCUMENTATION: - Contract/Agreement - Statement of Work (SOW) - Functional Specification - Software Requirement Specification - Software Design Specification - Project Plan - Test Plans/TestCases/Acceptance Criteria - Workflow Design and Analysis PROGRAMMING: - VB6, C++, C#, .NET - FileMaker Pro - SQL (MS-Access, MS-SQL, mySQL) - Joomla, Drupal and other CMS systems - Web 2.0, PHP, Perl, HTML, AJAX, ASP - Dreamweaver, Frontpage, Photoshop, etc. - Legacy languages: Cobol, Fortran, Pascal, PL/1, RPG, Assembler, dBase INDUSTRIES: - Healthcare in the United States (EMR, PM, HL7, HIPAA, etc.) - E-Commerce for various industries - Education (online teaching and school management) MAXIMIZING THE OFFSHORE ADVANTAGE: I have tried and tested teams available in India and Pakistan whom I use on all of my projects. Hailing from that part of the world, I am able to leverage my knowledge of their culture and thus get them to work at maximum performance. I *know* what makes them click! The savings of offshore resources are, of course, passed on to you... PRICING MODEL: I have a 2-tier pricing model. Local UK resources are priced at US$20 to $60 depending upon expertise level, while offshore resources are $10 to $25. The offshore component is generally 80 to 90% of total effort therefore overall rate is closer to $15-$20. That provides you the advantage of low-cost offshore resources without the risk of being burnt by fly-by-night operations. Thank you for reviewing my resume. I look forward to working for you.
In my years working as a software engineer I have developed a pragmatic view of the trade. Rather than pledge allegiance to a specific technology or stack, I try to leverage the advantages of the tools available to create programs and systems that work. Lately, for the last five years, I have been working with .Net, Linux, MySQL, MS-SQL, C#, C++, Ruby, and Perl. In that time I have developed firmware for embedded systems, desktop applications, web-based applications, and back-end systems. Even though the gamut is wide, I tend to focus on easy to learn and use programs. This usually implies hiding the complexities form the users and making the use of the system as efficient as possible. The core of my skills are the ability to adapt my existing knowledge to new situations and new technologies, the realistic view of the software development cycle, experience working in a distributed environment, and a sense of pride in creating good quality, well documented, working code.
Some developers like to do a little of everything (the ones with all of the acronyms after their names), but I think that makes it difficult to become an expert in one area. I love Access and that's all I want to do. When properly designed, Access is the fastest (and therefore the least expensive) tool to create desktop applications. I have over 13 years experience developing Access applications, and I have a lot of code already written in my personal library that can be reused on other projects, thus saving time and reducing errors. I prefer to develop Access Applications from scratch (with either an Access or SQL Server back-end database) -- that way, I can make sure it is done correctly from the beginning. I can also clean up applications created by others, and organize / import your data in a way that keeps everything connected. I understand database design and how information in one table relates to information in other tables. I can write complex VBA code (there isn't any problem I haven't been able to solve, one way or another, in Access). I can merge Access data with PDF reports, send emails through Outlook and post the entry in a Contact Log, import / export data to other applications such as Excel, and create Administrator screens that allow the Admins to configure the database (so you don't have to run back to the developer every time you want to make a simple change). My key skills include: • Excellent analysis skills. I have the ability to sort through information, identify key problems, and focus on effective solutions. • Adaptable communicator. Since I have worked as both a programmer and a business analyst, I can communicate effectively with stakeholders with various information needs. • Strong emphasis on customer service. I help customers identify what they want, and then deliver on time and under budget. • Effective project management skills. I focus on clearly identifying the requirements and documenting them in a way that the customer can understand. Then I develop the solution iteratively, allowing the customers an early view of the work so they can give early feedback, thus reducing miscommunication and lowering project costs.
