As a former journalist and freelance writer, I have gained a wide range of skills and experience in many areas of writing and editing. I have a long list of writing projects, which includes blogs, online news and feature articles, online news releases, website content development, editing, enewsletters, proofreading, keyword research, social media, script writing and speech writing. As a reporter first, and then editor of the Arkansas Sun, a countywide newspaper, I reported on everything from the plight of rice farmers to the goings-on at the County Courthouse. Some other past writing experience includes a screenplay that was produced, a monthly print magazine on state volunteerism for the Arkansas Governor's Office, and speech writing and new law summaries for the Arkansas Senate, as their Legislative Information Officer. As Assistant Director of the Arkansas Endowment for the Humanities, I helped develop programs at a grass roots level to bring culture, history and education to adults and children in the state. In addition to my other jobs, I worked with a personal injury attorney for 15 years, negotiating settlements with insurance companies and arbitrators, preparing legal documents, and helping represent the law firm’s clientele. I continue to consult with two law firms concerning their online presence including social media development, online and offline press releases, enewsletters, and blog writing. My passions are elder care, the Arkansas Food Bank, cooking, and organic gardening. I am efficient, organized and dependable. I know that I would be an asset to any business willing to work with me.

Since graduating from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a Bachelor of Arts in English, I have established my own business that helps companies leverage the power of SEO, SEM, and emerging technologies through the creation and curating of value-added content. In simpler, less inflated terms: I am a writer and designer who has learned how to write and design for the web. I love writing website content, email marketing campaigns, blog articles, press releases, journalistic pieces and everything in-between. I'm delving deeper and deeper into developing websites and creating complete marketing campaigns. I'm excited about where the future might take me. Contact me today so we can start working on a better future together.
I have published thousands of articles and dozens of eBooks that between them command millions of daily views. Some of my works have even gained press and TV publicity. I am always eager to write eye-grabbing content for websites, research and write academic papers, ghostwrite a book and generally create anything that involves putting words together in amazing ways. I am proficient at conducting research (both online and offline). I've been writing as a hobby for more than a decade and I am in the process of publishing my first paperback non-fiction book internationally. I possess a wide array of PC and web-related skills, thanks to my background as a virtual assistant to several successful webmasters.
Over the last 10 years I have been working in public relations writing press releases and working with media, organizing events, creating content and managing websites and handling social media. I'd like to branch out to creative writing, as well as continue working in public relations, media and content writing, which is what I'm good at.

I’m a former reporter for the Los Angeles Times, an award-winning copy editor with a titanium-level technology background, and without question, one of the best content producers you’ll ever come across. I believe, with every cell in my body, that there’s no place in this world for passive, boring corporate-style writing. You can explain something complicated with simple, straightforward, lively and compelling copy, without sounding too casual, basic, or in-your-face. An added bonus? I do all my own work. It's all about quality control. On the copy editing side, I've proofed and reworked web pages, books, newspapers, magazine articles, instructions manuals, white papers and FAQs. I use a three-step system that does far more than fix grammar. I "trim the fat" using active, economical language. Here's where I excel the most: 1. Web content. Not only is my writing crisp and clean, I understand principles of SEO, social media, page layout and navigation. In my writing, there are no such things as blocky, long paragraphs or run-on sentences. I write with a lot of flair, but I’m economical with language. 2. Crowdfunding copy. Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, other platforms. It does not matter if you’re bootstrapping a cloud project, raising cash for a new type of battery, or driving donations for disease research, you need to tell a story. I’m not just a master storyteller, I’m a former podcaster who has interviewed people behind some of the most successful crowdfunding projects in existence. I know what works and I know how to woo an audience. 3. Tech writing. Writing about technology is more than a skill, it’s an art form. If your copy puts your readers into a coma and your conversion rate is pitiful, let me take your complicated product, learn how it makes lives better, and translate that into copy that will not just interest your audience, but make them want to buy what you have to sell. 4. Email marketing. I spent more than six years at one of the biggest email marketing companies on the planet. I know CAN-SPAM rules by heart. I understand exactly why an email ends up in the junk file and how to revive a dead campaign. Hire me and I’ll write high-converting campaigns that turn into sales, or informational emails that your readers will save (and share). Need a newsletter on how to clean an entire house in less than five minutes? Contact me – I can help. 5. Proposal and grant writing. Writing proposals is like being a lawyer. You’re not going to win until you successfully “make your case”. You give me the facts and stats, I’ll deliver the vision. I can create boilerplate copy that you can customize for each proposal you make on your own. I can analyze RFPs to see if they’re a good fit. I can write letters of intent, pry a budget out of a city clerk (most of the time), and track your project from start to finish. Although I’ve posted an hourly rate, I prefer flat-rate projects. Visit my portfolio for work samples, and get in touch if you think I'd be a great fit. As far as hourly rates go, here are some rates for "standard", one-off (or bulk) projects: Press releases - $100-$150 each. Includes all interviews, writing, links, creation of boilerplate info at bottom, distribution to the service of your choice, edits, working with distribution service on edits, etc, Does not include price of distribution, but I can suggest services within your price range. Price depends on turnaround time and complexity of topic. Negotiable. Web pages - $50-$80 a page, depending on subject matter and length. For a shorter page on a simpler topic, or a group of pages, we can develop a different rate. Negotiable. Crowdfunding proposals - $300-$700 each. Includes everything, from social media network suggestions and strategies to PR and marketing tips. For a deep dive, where I spend significant time researching similar projects and successful techniques relevant to your product or service, you're looking at $700. For a general proposal that simply runs through tried-and-true techniques and strategies, $300. Either way, I'm giving you the keys to the kingdom. It'll be worth it, I promise. Negotiable. Skype consulting - $50-$100 an hour. You name the topic, I'll come prepared. Negotiable.

The publishing world is taking a hit these days and due to downsizing, my position as Digital Media Director at RKP was eliminated in November 2012. I am now working from home with a focus in digital and social media marketing, consulting, writing, design and project management. In the last couple of years I've collaborated with sales, corporate, e-comm, subscriptions and editorial teams to drive cohesive in-house web, print, email and social media marketing campaigns that helped grow and engage a combined fan base of over 500,000 likes, followers, members and subscribers. I've worked on campaigns such as monthly contests, e-Commerce promotions, branding materials, weekly videos, digital ad banners, e-blasts, surveys, community panels, e-newsletters and social media page updates which helped double, if not triple the traffic on company sites and increased subscription sales. I helped RKP transition from monthly updates to daily and weekly updates. As a result, I've published a blog series called "Going Digital" for Canada's Unbound Media, a blog for online magazines and media sites. The series is all about helping a company transition their content to the digital realm. You can find it the series here: http://blog.agilitycms.com/going-digital-5-surprising-ways-a-cms-can-unite-a-print-and-digital-team My combined creative and technical background in publishing, writing and web design has led to my ability to successfully strategize and collaborate with company stakeholders and internal and external clients regarding all digital inventory, marketing campaigns, annual editorial schedules, workflows, team staffing and infrastructure decisions.
