Currently studying Music at the University of Sheffield, I have a wealth of experience in creating and analysing music from a wide range of areas. As a musician I work to a high standard, having received the Sir Thomas Beecham Scholarship for attaining the highest overall mark in my first year. Most importantly, however, I maintain a strong enthusiasm for performing, creating and appreciating music, and I hope to be involved in as many musical opportunities as I can find.
I have been playing guitar as my primary instrument from a young age, and since receiving my grade 8 aged 18 I have been broadening my abilities by further studying and playing jazz music, alongside other popular genres such as funk, reggae and soul. I perform and sit as an active committee member on the acclaimed Sheffield University Big Band, and I am involved in a number of other musical projects which continue to push my abilities. As a result I am a competent and confident guitarist, with an eclectic range of playing styles and abilities.
In addition to popular styles, I have a strong, comprehensive understanding of classical music, which we cover as part of my university course. Aside from attending classical concerts and listening to recordings, I have experience in analysing this music and articulating this in a professional, academic manner. My eloquent writing style makes me an ideal candidate for jobs that involve writing reviews, articles and informative explanations, and I am also confident in tasks involving musical transcription.
Composition is an area of music in which I particularly take an interest, covering a vast range of styles from electronic dance to expressive film music. I have been releasing electronic music under the name Da Rico for several years now, and, following an honourable mention from well-known artist Bon Iver in a remix competition, I have had my work described by BBC Radio Sheffield’s Christian Carlisle as “stunning” and “wonderful, wonderful stuff.” In addition, I have written incidental music (such as radio themes and music for video) for student organisations such as Forge Radio and King’s College Student Advocates International.
Music is something I have a lot of experience with and truly understand at an advanced level. I am well-qualified, well-equipped and well-experienced, as well as a confident communicator who can work efficiently against deadlines. Please feel free to message me if you are unsure about anything on my profile, I’d be more than happy to have a Skype conversation about any potential work you might need completing.
