I have worked for the American Red Cross and the Health and Safety Institute on various projects, and I have an extensive background in instructional design and curriculum development. I have also spent time volunteering as a writing assistant and with curriculum development. I have developed educational experiences for new military spouses, ranging from question-and-answer sessions to briefings on military customs and courtesies.     The combination of my education and experience is a solid foundation for a position within Instructional Design (ID). Having completed a BS and MS in Instructional Design, I have a strong foundation of ID methodology, theory, and design principles. I have over 3 years working experience within higher education as an Instructional Designer and educator, in addition to my time learning through higher education. My roles have ranged from my work with The Center for the Application of Information Technologies at Western Illinois University as an Instructional Designer meeting with faculty and building online educational systems, to teaching undergraduate students technology within the classroom, to developing online and classroom training and professional development materials for East Carolina University Office of Grants and Contracts. I also have corporate training development experience with UnitedHealthcare and Manic Media Group, INC, based in Washington D.C.. Within those two positions I managed multiple projects and assumed a lead designer role. I was tasked with implementing best practices, solid design work, and suggesting appropriate design methods while remaining innovative. Within Instructional Design, I am a multipurpose tool. I excel at front-end analysis, developing the foundation for design and development through the ADDIE model, evaluation and measurement, and overall client relations. Furthermore, as a creative individual, I also excel at storyboarding, multimedia development, photography, and various design software programs, such as the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office. I have intermediate to proficient skills with most technologies used in this fiend, to include BlackBoard, Lectora, and Camtasia. Being able to design and develop instructional materials and systems with outstanding design and visual principles, and developing full working instructional design systems that are rich with analysis and instructional design theory, I feel I am a perfect candidate for this position. Furthermore, my written and verbal communication skills are superb, and allow me to navigate a variety of conversations and situations. Having been a non-traditional student, I also understand the demands and needs of online learning students from the viewpoints of the University, the Faculty, and the student alike.  less

    Over the last 14 years I have produced 30 eLearning courses, authored 15,000 pages of telecommunications user manuals (print and help), and designed the information architecture for 6 telecommunications firms technical publications and learning environments including converting classroom led training into eLearning, virtual classroom, and virtual lab/simulations. I also designed and ran a 3 implementations of single sourcing authoring for user manuals and training using DITA 1.2 XML. I have also participated and designed information architectures for intranets primarily in the SharePoint 2007/2010/O365 environment. I am conversant in creating ontologies/taxonomies for metadata management and converting these into information models and operationalizing the ontology into content. For the purpose of developing 4 new information development tools, I have participated in the gathering of user requirements/task analysis, created software design mockups and use cases, and providing testing and design feedback to the developers. I also designed the information development environment for technical publications for these 4 software products. As a university lecturer in military history and politics, I have taught over 1500 students, edited at least 3,000 papers and designed 2 courses. I have taught live in the classroom, virtually (webinar) and via asynchronous LMS (TopClass, Desire2Learn, and Blackboard).  less
