I turned that three month contract into becoming employee #22 of the company and was named director of staffing. I hired 38 people for the company through and completed the hiring program for the company's second round of funding. I hired 3 Vice presidents, 6 directors and numerous other individual contributors. Mostly the folks had engineering degrees of diverse disciplines including optical, electrical, mechanical and manufacturing engineers. Also included were operations, manufacturing, accounting, administration, sales and marketing roles filled. Three years later I joined another company which developed telecommunications devices for optical networks. Here I also completed the hiring program for their current level of funding, this time taking the organization from 46 to 74 people. That company was also acquired. I have also been responsible for hiring dozens of contractors or consultants from the corporate side. With not a single one of them did we pay a search firm. When economic turmoil hit in 2009, I moved over to the transportation industry, which was a little less ravaged from conditions. I was the company GM where we placed independent sales agents and truck drivers with both brokers and carriers in freight transportation. I had complete responsibility for internal staffing, sales, marketing, recruiting and P&L. Most recently I founded my own practice: SpearPoint Search Consultants. This not a recruiting agency, but a talent acquisition consulting company. SpearPoint works with early stage companies to help them key talent in their early stages. We do not do fee based contingent recruiting.
