My name is John Burrows - I am self employed and have been running three small businesses over the past five years, both online and offline. My main business is JDB Computing, an IT repair and services business. I primarily perform hardware and software repairs on laptop and desktop computers, as well as a range of other related services - virus removal, data destruction, etc. I have been running this business since 2010, and providing online support services since 2011. The sister business of JDB Computing is JDB Media, a web and print design business. While the bulk of my experience lies in PHP, Wordpress, Opencart, Prestashop and Linux server administration, I also deal with print design and typesetting, including the typesetting contract for a local newspaper. The third business I run is a jewellery company - currently called Maelstrom but soon to be changed. This grew out of a hobby, as I have no formal qualifications, but am very interested in the shaping and forming of metals, particularly casting in copper, silver and pewter. Nowadays these are somewhat rare skills, with most precise metal work being done either by extremely high end jewellers, or overseas. I have chosen PPH as I have been subscribed to the email newsletter for several months now, watching and recording the amount of relevant job postings that I would be suitable for, and there seem to be a reasonable amount.
Over the last seven years I have created numerous designs for print, web, and mobile, ranging from advertisements, posters, business cards, stationary, brochures, icons, and custom projects. I'm highly proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Lightroom. I am seeking opportunities to shoot/edit photos, design, and write/proof copy. I'm capable of working on advertisements, marketing pieces, mailers, letterhead, brochures, logos or any other materials that align with the vision and value of your business/organization. Whatever your need, I would love to discuss it with you. We just might be a good fit. Some of my previous work — www.behance.net/dannysherman

We all want to have the most appealing and financially rewarding website out there, don’t we? The unfortunate truth is that most new websites fall far short of this ambition, because very few people truly understand how to go about creating one. Too many times I’ve been called in by clients who’ve paid out for a website that ends up poorly reflecting their business. The problem seems to be the multitude of contrasting skills required for the job. Rarely will one person have a skill-set comprehensive enough to encompass all areas of website production — from programming to user interface design to writing engaging copy that’s optimised for search engines and converts visitors into paying customers. This is where I can offer something special to my clients: over the past 10 years I have dedicated myself to helping small businesses gain momentum and build explosive growth. My speciality is web design, as this is where I have found most small businesses require help, but my skills and advice are usually enlisted in numerous other areas of a particular business. This requires wearing many hats, so I’ve been lucky enough to diversify and hone my skills in all aspects of design, marketing and copywriting. Last week I packed up my life in the UK and moved all of my belongings to Thailand, where I will be spending the next 6 months. The people are wonderful, the weather is fantastic, the food is out of this world and my apartment comes complete with fibre optic broadband and a pool. As a bonus, my living costs are low so I can pass some of that saving on to my clients. Having only just begun my life as a digital nomad, my profile currently lacks any reviews from previous oDesk clients; however, included in my portfolio below is a selection of work completed for my most recent client (Green Energy Advice Team) from my hometown of Brighton, UK.

No matter what you're looking for in this regard, let's talk about it! You want to look great to your clients. Let me help. With an extensive background and ninja-level skills in Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator, PowerPoint/Keynote, WordPress, and more, I can help you come up with everything you need, both in print and online. I'm certified in instructional design technology (I will finish my master's in instructional design in May 2014), so that I can help you to craft your message through clearly presented information and education-based marketing. Your message will be comprehensible and focused in every detail. As an award-winning publications designer and a college instructor in graphic design, I have a solid grounding in color theory, typography, layout, and other design principles to make sure the right ideas will be conveyed to your audience.
