I am truly bicultural, with native fluency (speak, read, and write) in both English and Japanese. I have been a translator since I was 15 years old. I was born in Japan to Japanese parents, and relocated to the U.S. at age 2. As an ex-Pat family, I went back to Japan between the ages of 8-12 where I continued to keep up with my English skills. When I returned to the U.S., I attended The Japanese Weekend School in order to keep up with my Japanese language in case we were relocated again. We spent every other summer in Japan for 2 months at a time. At Bucknell University, the Japanese professor took me under her wings and created a Independent Studies course, which was college level Japanese work. Since graduation, I have worked in various Fortune 500 companies utilizing my language fluency and cultural know-hows. Now that my children are all in school, I am available to work from home. I am also available for interpretation, and voice overs at a different pay rate. My field of expertise is in skincare and fashion.

I was born and raised in Japan but grew up in an international household. I moved to the California in my childhood and became a native-level English speaker while maintaining my Japanese language skills at home and in school. I was recently a finalist in the Manga Translation Battle held by the Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs and was the recipient of the Audience Choice Award. Preserving the casual tone of the original manga was a challenge, but a welcome one; I am confident in my abilities to interpret subtle Japanese idioms into English without losing its flavor and nuances. I have a great eye for detail and visual language. I honed my skills at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where I became proficient at working with watercolors, oil painting, acrylics, Adobe Photoshop, and mixed media. I've been the recipient of several awards including first place Artistic Handwriting in the World Handwriting Contest.
Over the last 2 years, I have helped clients translate website content and promotional materials from English to Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Japanese. I have also worked at an IT startup creating and managing Search Engine Optimised web content as well as translations while they expand into the Asian markets. While in this role, I have picked up skills in SEO marketing, SQL, XML and Episerver for CMS. I'm also experienced in writing blog articles, specialising in leisure topics such as lifestyle, entertainment, travel and technology. I'm also proficient in conducting my own research into other topics to bring together insightful and resourceful articles for readers. I grew up in a multicultural environment and speaks four languages, with English and Chinese being my native language. If you're looking for a writer/translator/blogger in either English or Chinese, you can be sure that the product would be error-free and perfect in grammar and spelling. I graduated from Valencia University (Spain) in 1999, where I obtained a PhD Degree in 2010. In 2008, I received a Master's Degree in Japanese Linguistics at Kobe City University of Foreign Studies. My field of studies is comparative linguistics between the Japanese, English and Spanish languages. However, I have dedicated an important part of my research to studying translation. I am currently teaching English and Spanish language and didactics at three Spanish universities. Before becoming a teacher I was hired for three years by the Japanese local authorities to work as Coordinator for International Relationships between a Japanese Prefecture (Gifu) and Spain. I also worked for the Tokyo branch of Lladró, an important Spanish porcelain company. On the other hand, I have worked in several occasions as an interpreter. Once, I even had the chance to be the interpreter for a Spanish magazine in an interview with Literature Nobel Prize Kenzaburo Oé. Recently a Spanish publisher, Satori Ed., has published two of my Japanese-to-Spanish translations of some Japanese classic literature authors.
My specialities include illustration, including character design and fashion illustration, as well as logo and web design. As I have been living in Japan for over four years and have been trained at a Japanese art university, I can offer a unique style and perspective. In addition to art, I also have done freelance work for various Japanese language learning blogs as well as for Tokyo travel sites. Occasionally I do translation work as well.
My goal is to find work in fields relating to language and linguistics. I have experience with Japanese, having lived here for over 1 year. Ideally, I would like to work translating Japanese to English and English to Japanese. However, I am happy to take jobs that don't involve Japanese as well.
