I have been teaching English since 2000, both to native and non-native speakers. I began my teaching career in Montpellier, France, with 'ACB Langues et Traduction'. During this time, I taught professional English in a corporate context 1-1 and to small groups. On my return to England, I trained and qualified as an English teacher in the Further Education Sector, passing my Certificate in Education in 2011. During my training, and since that time, I have taught level 3 English Language and Literature to mature students, English for Speakers of Other Langauges (ESOL - all levels), and Functional Skills English (all levels) at Accrington and Rossendale College, in Lancashire. During the 2013/14 academic year, I have held the position of English Lecturer/Assessor for Functional Skills and GCSE. I have always ensured that my learners' needs come first in any teaching I have been engaged in. A key factor in inspirational language teaching is encouraging and nurturing self-belief and confidence in the area of study. I have the experience of having learned and mastered a second language, dabbled in a couple of others, and I am currently learning Spanish. I therefore understand the challenges associated with not feeling proficient in communication. I know what worked for me, and I am keen to help students discover what works for them. My experience is that my own passion for discovering/developing strategies which work for the individual student is infectious and it works! I am structured in my approach, without being rigid. I take teaching seriously, yet believe that learning is most effective in a relaxed atmosphere of trust. At home with my wife and our three sons, we speak French and English and we are learning Spanish together.
Perfectly fluent in English and French, I'm qualified to translate from one language to the other with equal ease and proficiency and with an in-depth grasp of both languages and cultures. For me, translating is like a game: juggling with words until they express the same meaning but also the same spirit and vitality in the target language as they did initially. Over the last 7 years, I have acquired significant experience translating and proofreading websites, press books, sustainable development reports, product catalogues and various marketing materials and business correspondence. I am seeking opportunities to apply my language skills on a larger scale starting, why not, with your business. I also have extensive experience as a VA and teaching English as a foreign language with tailor-made lessons for any level.
