As a medical secretary I have mainly worked at reception desks in different hospitals over time. The jobs required an extensive knowledge of medical terminology. Transcription of medical protocols was part of the daily routine. This terminology was revised when i decided to turn my attention to animal management. As an independent researcher for my bachelor's thesis, I learned how to extend my interest range and increased my independence. This independence was expanded during my travels abroad, where my knowledge of the english language was expanded. At this moment in time I am searching for a job that can help me maintain this independent lifestyle and i believe that I can find this by working online as a transcriber-translator.

I have worked in the medical field for a number of years, the last four of which have been spent in a busy family practice near Dallas, Texas. I started out simply as a medical records clerk, but now manage input of records for our EMR which includes clinical summaries, lab values transcription, diagnostic reporting and the like. Currently, I also work at our front desk so I have become proficient at time management and refined my communication skill set. I type about 80 words per minute and have a high accuracy rate. I have enjoyed taking some classes on medical transcription and terminology but am excited to branch out into other forms of transcription and document management. My ultimate goal is to create a steady form of income so that I may have a more flexible schedule.
I have over 15 years in the medical transcription business. I am also very proficient in using Word. I can make minor documents and do creative nonfiction and fiction writing. I am currently in my fourth year at University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in pursuit of a BA in professional writing/technical writing.

I love proofreading. I love taking a document and polishing it until it really sings. I have honed my skills through a lengthy career as a copy editor at newspapers across the country. But I don't get the opportunity to do as much proofing as I would like, so I've headed online to hang out my shingle. I'm not really particular about the subject of the text I'm proofing, but I feel I would be of extra value in the realm of biological sciences, given my educational background and my years spent as a freelance medical transcriptionist. I am happy to edit at whatever level you are looking for; I can make detailed stylistic suggestions, or just hunt down typos and errors in grammar. I think you'll be satisfied that whatever you have written will be in pristine condition once I am done looking at it.
I graduated from Paul Smith's College with an associate's degree in forestry in 1980 and went on to study geology. When that didn't work I entered the work force and, in 1989, began specializing in medical transcription. I have done that ever since, successfully working at various times as an employee, an independent control, and a small business owner. As Barbara Beier, writing under the pen name of B. J. Deming, I am now building a new career as a freelance writer. I maintain the blog http://flighttowonder.com and specialize in earth science topics. My personal blog is http://bjdeming.com, where I focus on a Sunday morning volcano and an American Civil War 150th anniversary post once weekly. I am available for writing and Web research, as well as for transcription of any sort, but especially medical transcription.
