I was interested in open source software since high school. When I was 19, I got my first job as a sysadmin, and that was a story, I must tell you... I just learned that 90% of work in IT is dealing not with machines, but with people (and sometimes policy). Now I'm starting to offer my experience here at oDesk for interested people to benefit from. My skills are: - Server and VM rollout and maintenance, using community tools like Puppet for configuration management - Linux networking; OpenVPN, IPsec, iptables, iproute2, Quagga, TC for traffic shaping and control - Linux virtualization: KVM, OpenVZ - Experience with various kinds of server hardware (ever had a perfectly fine HP DL180 G6 spew NMIs with CentOS 6? That turned out to be a power management issue, by the way!) - Know my way around Cisco equipment, a fair bit of knowledge in Extreme Networks' EXOS and JunOS too. I'm not a CCIE (yet), but I certainly won't be lost there. - Have experience with wireless hardware commonly used here, such as MikroTik and UBNT hardware, can help with building wireless networks (being a ham radio operator certainly helps! :) 73s! Yuri.

I'm a sysadmin and web developer from Bilbao, Spain. I've been working for about 15 years making and managing high traffic websites. While still in high school I created what then was one of the most popular internet communities in Spanish ( frozen-layer.com, Alexa top 970 in 2005) and have continued working as a sysadmin and developer since then. At a Spanish ISP (Sarenet) I've been the manager and sysadmin for the whole internet infrastructure for Vocento, the biggest newspaper group in Spain. For 2 years (2012-2014) I managed the servers necessary for keeping 13 national newspapers online (frontends, backend, publishing platform, etc) totaling more than 100 servers with a mix of OS' and applications. I've also created a virtual cloud based on OpenVZ designed to host private email servers with more than 150 servers active. This cloud included an automatic provisioning interface using RoR with puppet, as well as an administration panel on each of the servers (also based on Ruby on Rails) Nowadays I'm managing the whole infrastructure for a European agency (OSHA) consisting in approximately 60 Unix servers with a variety of applications (including websites based on Plone, zeodb, mediawiki, drupal) and thinking about freelancing full time in the near future.
