Transcription / 97 WPM / Perfectionist / Reliable...

United States - Last active: 9 days ago - Tests: 8 - Portfolio: 20

Objective: To provide 100% accurate transcriptions of audio/video in a timely manner (the time frame to be decided by the client). I will follow whatever style guide the client selects. My profile hourly rate is per audio/video hour, not per labor hour. I have recently raised my rate from $75 per hour to $100 per hour when comparing what work I typically do to what TranscriptionWing charges for similar work. Using their calculator at http://www.transcriptionwing.com/price.html, for 60 minutes of good quality audio with no accents and identifying speakers, they estimate $107.40 for delivery in 5 business days. Typically I deliver transcripts for audio with foreign accents and audio challenges within one day for 60 minutes of audio. Their estimated price for comparable work is $209.40. So my current rate is quite a bargain especially when you consider that I give specialized attention to every client, tailoring the transcript to their specifications instead of using a standard catch-all format that some companies use. Raising my previous rate of $1.25 per audio minute to my current rate of $1.67 per audio minute is still a bargain compared to CastingWords.com. CastingWords charges $2.50 per minute for a 1 day TAT, $1.50 per minute for a 6 day TAT, and $1.00 per minute as their budget rate. I normally have a 1 day or less TAT for good quality audio/video lengths of up to 2 hours (American accents), as either strict verbatim or slightly edited verbatim, completely proofread, delivered in .doc format. I am willing to negotiate for specific assignments, however. My current AWPM is 97 with 99% accuracy. I currently transcribe at around 4 minutes per audio/video minute for good quality audio/video. I am a perfectionist, and I thrive in work where perfection is highly valued. I am steadily working towards my goal of 260 WPM with 100% accuracy. I want to perfect my transcription skills, meaning to transcribe the final copy of an audio/video in real time. The industry standard is one hour per 15 minutes of audio. So my goal is to transcribe 15 minutes of audio/video in 15 minutes flat, with 100% accuracy (correct formatting, spelling, grammar, punctuation). I am a native speaker of American English and transcribe with American spellings. I use _The Oxford Guide to World English_ to help me with other accents. While working for CastingWords, I transcribed British, Australian, and some other world accents. I am familiar with speakers from India. I can transcribe audio with multiple speakers, as I had done for CastingWords. I have specialized knowledge in the Internet marketing, music, mathematics, and education fields. I also have great knowledge of the King James Version of the Bible. In the near future, I plan to earn a degree in Medical Transcription and earn the title of Certified Medical Transcriptionist. Besides my specialties, I have a wide range of knowledge over many subjects, from sciences to computer technology and video games, and many others. I have good skills in researching unknown terms, and I love to learn new things everyday.

I moved from Wisconsin to New York City after I graduated from university with my B.A. in history. My work background includes multiple non-profit groups, including the World Council of Churches, where I served in their United Nations offices and advocated for policies in the areas of women’s rights and human rights. This work demanded strong communication skills, including writing, editing, and public speaking, as well as a strong knowledge of communicating with appropriate levels of formality. Later, I received a full-scholarship to attend Columbia University with Union Theological Seminary for a three-year program of study. During this time, I took courses at the Foundation Center to improve my grant writing skills. I subsequently served as the leader of a humanist community in Brooklyn for three years. In this position, I gave public lectures in the areas of history, philosophy and ethics in addition to writing curriculum on ethics for children ages 2-15. I am certified by the University of Cambridge to teach English, and I am currently completing my Master of Education degree in education. COPYWRITING & EDITING: I have experience writing copy for websites, newsletters, book chapters, and grant applications. In addition, I have experience with writing and editing extensive academic papers and documents ranging in length from 500-25,000 words. I am very comfortable writing with APA, Chicago/Turabian, and MLA style citations. WEDDINGS: I've performed hundreds of weddings in one of the most diverse cities int he world: New York City. I have experience with and opinions on everything from ceremonies to officiants, venues to caterers and decorations. I can write you a personalized ceremony or write for your wedding blog. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE - APPROACH TO TEACHING: Together, we will create structured and realistic learning goals through an initial assessment and ongoing monitoring of progress. I strive to empower my students with lessons organized around specific themes and which develop skills holistically through student centered lessons. I focus on both productive skills (speaking & writing) as well as receptive skills (listening & reading) while seamlessly integrating learning of language systems, including grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, functions and discourse. I incorporate a range of interesting activities that move from controlled practice to a freer practice and follow every session with helpful feedback on both correct and incorrect language usage.
