During 25 years as the principal IT "guru" and "go-to-guy" for an operations research (OR) consulting firm I have acquired unique and proven insights on the design, development and deployment of applications that are: useful (provide the user with a needed capability); useable (the capability is easy and convenient to use); and used (applications that are useful and useable will actually be used effectively). I have also acquired an extensive toolkit that is useful for fixing existing applications and, more importantly, rescuing development projects that have somehow gone awry.
My intent is to leverage this experience in order to provide clients with timely, cost-effective and well-structured solutions to their IT challenges whether those are: new applications, refit of legacy applications, or the rescue of behind schedule/over cost development efforts.
I'm committed to the use of appropriate tools ... for example, Cobol, C , C#, or a proprietary 3GL (e.g. Delphi) or 4GL (e.g. Focus) can all be used in appropriate circumstances as the application language. Similarly the database approach employed may be XML, relational, hierarchical, network, or OLAP. In a Windows environment Access and/or Excel may be all that is needed. In many cases, given the client environment, Lotus Domino may be the answer to web applications in lieu of ASP, Java, or .NET.
My principal area of expertise is the design and development of databases including the user interfaces required to insure the application meets the "useful, useable, and used" criteria.
I'm also committed to making the most effective use of the tools available, regardless of how they are selected (e.g. legacy system, client IT capabilities, requirements based etc.) and guarantee that the tools will never constrain the solution.
