Freelance Editor/ Animator/ Motion Graphics Artist
Last active: 12/31/2014
My name is Lisa M. Brackney and I am an editing professional with additional skills in both motion graphics and animation. I received my Bachelor's Degree specializing in Media Arts and Animation from The Art Institute of Portland in 2012, and have been working as a freelance film editor ever since.
I’ve worked in both Animation and Live broadcast, as well as Commercial and Web Advertising. Even though a majority of my previous work is Stop Motion animated short films, the last year and a half I’ve been working as a freelance Editor for the Advertising and Media Marketing Company Big Brand Stories in Portland, Oregon.
While working various contracts for Big Brand Stories; some of which the clients have included Dish Network, Clark County Recycling, Nutcase Helmets, Lightspeed Technology and the Oregon Association of School Librarians, I have simultaneously worked on other freelance contracts of which the largest client was HP Printers and Ink.
Starting out as an editor for animation has actually allowed me to have an advantage over other editors as I see things in frames rather than just time code. Having the ability to work this way allows me to cut my time in half with regards to shot for shot matching and being able to detect flaws in footage that would otherwise go unnoticed; continuity errors, the need for minor compositing etc.
Interning while still pursuing my Bachelor's Degree in 2012 allowed me to have been credited to one Feature film that is just now circulating Festivals for the 2014-2015 season, “Anse and Bhule”. When I took over as an editing intern during post-production, the film was a total running time of 4 and a half hours. I successfully trimmed the mind numbing footage down to a more acceptable and story driven festival version of an hour and forty five minutes.
Some of my other achievements as a young editor include having films showcase in the Northwest Film Festival (2012, 2014), The Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (POW Fest, 2012), and I’ve most recently had a film screen at the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival in October of 2014; to which I had the opportunity to travel to Chicago and mingle with other filmmakers from all over the world.
Though I am a serious person when it comes to my work as an editor, I have a great sense of humor and I’m an easy going individual whom has no problems meeting tight deadlines- two qualities I value in crews I work within. I have an audio background as well, as my twin sister is an Audio Engineer and has taught me the tricks of the trade over the years. I am also a skilled motion graphics artist and animator, should the need for either come up.
Though a grand portion of my young career has stemmed in short films and animation, these days I prefer the smaller and more targeted work of cutting for advertising and commercial.
