Professional and hobbyist developer, with over 15 years of actual development under the belt and 6 years in 'hands-on' management positions (as engagement manager in a consulting firm and then as a CTO in a web startup). My technical experience ranges from desktop (C/C++/C#/Java/VB, scripting in Python/Ruby/VBA), embedded (PIC, ATMEGA, ARM), web (PHP, Ruby on Rails, JS/Coffeescript, HTML5 and some understanding of web design principles and UX construction) and ERP/Business Intelligence (SAP BW, QlickView). These days (2014), I am mostly doing web dev (front-end/back-end) in Ruby, Python and CoffeeScript - they allow very quick iterations and cutting through tons of boilerplate to get to a MVP as quickly as possible. My skills in C/C++ are a bit rusty, but I'll gladly dust them off for an interesting project :) I read Java and C# and don't mind using them as external dependencies, but I do not enjoy working with those. As for my management experience, I have been leading small and large engagements (up to 2 millions EUR) in offshore settings (India, China), both on-site and remotely I feel like I have a good understanding of the communication and management challenges involved in freelancing. As your contractor, I see myself adding value by challenging your requirements, helping you define clear specifications and, if the assignment is large enough to need more than myself as a developer, I can help you screen out other offshore resources and simplify your outsourcing experience.
Sourcing and organizing quality information/data is what I love to do most. For me the beauty lies in not only sourcing the right information but also presenting in such a way as to give it meaning and help my client to change mere information into usable knowledge. I specialize in desktop research, data collection and analysis, while applying my writing skills to write outstanding, well researched reports. Preparing presentations or presentation notes for my clients has become one of the skills many rely on, especially when deadlines are looming. As web designer I focus on content rich sites using HTML or CMS design to build effective websites. As consultant my focus is on e-waste and hazardous waste management in Africa and I have been involved in research and report writing on several energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
When I was 11, my parents showed me how to use Excel to track my trading card collection. Today, I'm a spreadsheet ninja. I know pivot tables like the back of my hand, I can script you out a macro in a matter of hours, and I can nest functions together in ways you've never thought possible. Big words, sure, but I back it up. I have built reports, ad hoc and repetitive, that have gone as high as the board of directors of Fortune 500 corporations. My VBA-enabled smart forms are used by front-line operations personnel, and are robust enough to handle transactions from any end user. I also have many years of experience developing business procedures and workflows. I can map out a workflow and easily identify where efforts are being duplicated or wasted. My expertise in automation has helped large companies reduce their staffing costs while reducing manual error rates and increasing overall productivity. As a business person who "speaks tech", I make a fantastic liaison between end-users and developers, thereby reducing complications during the business application development process, and making sure that the product you need is what is actually delivered. I also know a thing or three about coding and web design. Self-taught mostly; I took the intro to Comp Sci courses in college, but I picked up most of my chops modding video games and automating repetitive tasks at work. I've also taken a few Codecademy courses to round out my knowledge base. I've never spent too long in any specific language, so I actually think I have a better understanding of how computer science works than a dedicated coder who stays in one language all day does. In essence, a lot more breadth than depth. Languages I know today and are comfortable taking on work for include C/C++/C#, Java, Python, HTML, CSS, and PHP.

Look no further for an MS Access expert. I'll quickly understand your needs and deliver a powerful, intuitive solution. Stuck on a frustrating problem? I'll fix it--just read my reviews! Sure, those $12/hour offshore programmers are tempting, but we all know: you get what you pay for. I'll complete your project quickly and efficiently, and I'll still be here in 6 months--or 2 years--when you need a minor update. I've developed several enterprise Access solutions from customer specifications, converted and enhanced legacy systems, and written feature-rich, complex reports. In 15 years of experience, there is very little I have not done in Access! VBA, query writing, complex reports, interface design, import/export, interoperability: bring it on. Have you seen my Odesk test scores and reviews? Customers love working with me because I quickly understand their needs, and I speak to them in plain English instead of dazzling them with techno-babble. In my career I've linked MS Access to several ODBC back-ends, including health data systems, and of course every version of SQL. Shortly after Access 2007 was released, I was the first person to notify Microsoft of two bugs. I had to devise my own clever workaround until they released SP1. I look forward to speaking with you (from my U.S. landline telephone, or Skype...my name with a dot between) soon. Thanks, Jules
