I am interested in utilizing my experience and knowledge in the Public Relations fields of material creation and writing, press release drafting and distribution, event planning, media relations, brand expansion and management and if needed crisis communications. I have 10 years experience working at public relations firms small and large. My last position was Vice President at Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide in Sacramento California. My responsibilities included managing the work on two of the largest infrastructure projects in the United States, the California High Speed Rail project, and a new state agency created to solve the states water problems the Delta Stewardship Council. For the California High-Speed Rail Authority, I managed 10 regional project segments and 72 regional consultants statewide. I was responsible for the review of all public materials to ensure consistency in messaging and presentations made publicly at various meetings taking place each week. Additionally, I managed the education and partnership outreach statewide for the High-Speed Rail project to ensure that the Authority was reaching all communities throughout the state and not just those associated along the project line. Prior to Ogilvy, I worked at KP Public Affairs the largest lobbying firm in California, where in the communications division, I handled the day-to-day operations of several major clients. This included the strategic oversight and program implementation for a statewide coalition "Alliance for a 21st Century Water System" to build consensus around the need for new water storage. In addition to coalition coordination and outreach, I also handled the statewide media outreach on behalf of the coalition and Westlands Water District. Additionally, I served as client leader for a renewable energy company siting projects throughout California, Invenergy LLC and provided media relations support and business and brand communications strategies for clients such as the California Small Business Association and PETCO. In shaping public policy in California, Mrs. Ratcliff was responsible for the statewide communications outreach on behalf of the California Mortgage Bankers Association when the housing crisis began to spur legislative actions against the industry. Prior to my work at KP, I worked for almost five years at Burson-Marsteller starting as an intern. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Journalism from California State University, Sacramento.
I have developed a spectrum of skills related to marketing, sales, and PR in the creation of brand presence for a variety of projects and clients. My strengths lie in the generation of new marketing strategy and plan implementation, in-depth understanding and execution of social media and search engine marketing, PR campaign management (e.g. press releases, media relations, pitching, bylined articles), web copy and development, grassroots marketing and sales strategy, and overall positive brand management. With these skills I look forward to working with you and your company to identify your objectives and goals and create an innovative marketing, PR, and/or sales campaign that will improve your online presence through efficient, effective writing and cohesive communication with target audiences. My primary interests lie in holistic health and wellness, fitness, green living, green energy/clean technology, and social justice issues. As these are my passions, I keep a constant pulse on media trends in these spaces which help to identify key angles for my clients to gain the attention that is needed and deserved.
I land dead center in the Persuador/Motivator matrix on every personality test I take. I’m also the executive director of a creative writing nonprofit (sidewalkchalk.org). I know how to tell a story. I know how to tell your story. I know how to tell it in a way that connects with readers on an emotional level, rather than coming off as a second-rate sales pitch. Whether you’re launching new software for social media integration, trying to draw some attention to your luxury sedan service, or putting together a marketing plan for your company’s next three years, I can make your copy connect. And I’d love to work for you.

Words are everything. They create stories. That's how we learn and remember things. I am a communications professional/writer who has spent 30+ years writing for all forms of media. Newspapers have asked me to write articles for special publications. I have also submitted articles on behalf of other organizations. That I like. I've been asked to write columns for magazines. That, I really like. I recently published an entertaining, self-help book, "Lights, Camera, Passion." It's a collection of stories woven together in an inspiring format. That, I love. My specialty, however, may be visual writing. I have been a writer for TV for 30+ years. I understand the concise, punchy copywriting style of writing that works well for TV. I appreciate matching words to visuals. I have written reports on murder and mayhem. I have written stories on movie stars and mirth. I have also produced, conceived and written special programming. "Utah Eats" is a 1/2 hour local program highlighting local foods and restaurants that create them. It was an original project, with two episodes which I oversaw from start to finish. I know how to let both words and pictures tell a story. I know when to let video tell a story and when to create words to do their part. There is a skill to know how to weave words and video or images together. That's a skill I have learned over 30 years. I also have had experience writing for social media. I conduct workshops on how to engage readers though digital platforms. It is more than just handing out information or details. Successful social media harnesses the art of storytelling on all platforms. Those stories must be told differently, but it still comes down to storytelling. Storytelling works on digital platforms. It works with audio/visual productions. It works with newspapers, magazines and books. It works because of words.
