I have recently raised my rate from $75 per hour to $100 per hour when comparing what work I typically do to what TranscriptionWing charges for similar work. Using their calculator at http://www.transcriptionwing.com/price.html, for 60 minutes of good quality audio with no accents and identifying speakers, they estimate $107.40 for delivery in 5 business days. Typically I deliver transcripts for audio with foreign accents and audio challenges within one day for 60 minutes of audio. Their estimated price for comparable work is $209.40. So my current rate is quite a bargain especially when you consider that I give specialized attention to every client, tailoring the transcript to their specifications instead of using a standard catch-all format that some companies use. Raising my previous rate of $1.25 per audio minute to my current rate of $1.67 per audio minute is still a bargain compared to CastingWords.com. CastingWords charges $2.50 per minute for a 1 day TAT, $1.50 per minute for a 6 day TAT, and $1.00 per minute as their budget rate. I normally have a 1 day or less TAT for good quality audio/video lengths of up to 2 hours (American accents), as either strict verbatim or slightly edited verbatim, completely proofread, delivered in .doc format. I am willing to negotiate for specific assignments, however. My current AWPM is 97 with 99% accuracy. I currently transcribe at around 4 minutes per audio/video minute for good quality audio/video. I am a perfectionist, and I thrive in work where perfection is highly valued. I am steadily working towards my goal of 260 WPM with 100% accuracy. I want to perfect my transcription skills, meaning to transcribe the final copy of an audio/video in real time. The industry standard is one hour per 15 minutes of audio.
