Designer and editor with multimedia and WordPress...

A longtime journalist, I worked as a reporter, photographer, copy editor and page designer before taking time off to get a master's degree in visual communication/multimedia (UNC-Chapel Hill). I have extensive experience in 4-color print design and production and information graphics, as well as copy editing and proofreading. I've also worked in Web and iPad design; I researched and designed an iPad app for my master's thesis project. It included video editing, motion graphics, information graphics and a GIS-based mapping component.
I'm fluent in most of the Adobe Creative Suite software, including InDesign, Photoshop and After Effects, as well as in digital photography and workflow using Lightroom. I have experience in video editing with FInal Cut Pro and, to a lesser extent, Premier. I've recently designed and built a WordPress website for a nonprofit literacy group. I have experience in SEO and website usability testing and would love the opportunity to expand my WordPress and Web design skills.
My skills and design philosophy are focused on usability, content and effective communication, whether the project is print, multimedia or Web.
As a word editor I have used InCopy and the MS Office suite (for Mac); I use Scrivener for editing and project management, and Filemaker database software. I was a news editor/copy desk chief for 10 years. More recent editing experience includes freelance proofreading for an alternative weekly newspaper and an internship as a proofreader for a small historical fiction publishing house (I also helped screen submissions). Whether it's a design project or an editing project, I can help make your work typo-, error-, and awkward-free.
